Creaky Steering etc

Featured Replies

After owning my current 2001 Octavia for 5 years I am about to order a new one... I have been very pleased with it but it had one frustrating regular problem - the repeated visits to have the anti roll bar bushes "sorted" out... so I came here to see what had cropped up on the New Octavia.... deep sinking heart sensations occurred when I read about creaky steering.... that sort of thing drives me mad and spoils a car... It also annoyed me that the dealer always pretended to know nothing about it (It seemed a well known feature of VW group cars with the same design) and always had to confirm that my diagnosis was correct.. believe me I rocognised the noise ! .. does anybody know if it is safe to order a car now in the expectation that VW are building the cars without the creaky steering ??? Water in the fusebox doesn't look fun either... perhaps I shouldn't have come here until after I order a new car.. :-)

Dont worry, a new cover design has sorted the water in the fusebox and a fix is on the way for the creaking steering.

Any idea if present production models will have this fix in place ? Supposely mine is being made this week :) .

Not 100% sure Gaff.

My steering seems okay but would I be able to go down to my dealer and order the new fusebox cover? Under warranty even?

Im not sure if it can be retro fitted or any details on it tbh

Please dont all rush down to your dealers and start bugging them for one. Do you have a problem with your electrics?

Electromechanical steering rack creaking noises especialy on left hand turning, is a known fault with these types of steering systems. It is down to insufficent preasure to the worm drive gear insde the steering assembly. Modified racks are being produced to over come this problem. Part from this ok.

Our new Octy 2 is being built Week 11 (mid-March?) So hope water ingress. creaky steering and all that will have been fixed by then. I hope. I really do.

I hope so John, later new models will be fitted with the later type E box preventing water ingress. As for the steering racks fingers crossed.

Thank you for that. And I would hope (having been very decently treated by Skoda so far) that if there are any problems there will be a very speedy remedy/update.

Not sure. You know the single beep you get when you go into reverse, to show the rear parking sensors are on? I now get that beep after I've gone back a few feet, though the actual warning beeps, nearer the obstacle, seem to be working okay. I need to keep an eye on this I think.

Well I hope they have sorted these items - I was told today that my car has been built and is awaiting shipment :)

My salesman is off to Prague for a trip around the factory in the morning - jammy sod
