Knocking sound ?

Featured Replies

Alright guys, I just brought a vrs yesterday and there is a knocking/rattling sound at the front end of the car, anyone know what this could be and how I can fix it ?

Could be a number of things, need to get it inspected to find out.

  • Anti roll bar bushes
  • Anti roll bar drop links
  • Top mounts
  • Ball joints
  • Track rods (inner and/or outer)
  • Suspension arm bushes

Or exhaust system, engine mounts, radiator mounts, loose battery...

Good replies ,

As said any of the above or more together, on tickover sometimes my radiator rattles a tad then stops.

I notice you hav'nt stated when it happens ie:  stationary or on the move or going over a bumpy surface. That would help narrow it down for whoever looks at it.

They are great cars, had mine for 11 years and still brings a smile when driving.

Cheers for the reply guys, sorry for the lack of info Ye just knocks when going over bumps, potholes etc,  my mates dad owns a garage so it's getting ramped tomorrow so hopefully he will tell me what it is, I don't know alot about cars but if it's something I could fix myself id be happy to give it a go.

@Box - Well, some of that stuff you can check for yourself. For instance, the battery should have a metal bar (not the fuse box) holding it down once you get the battery cover off.

I would probably suggest passenger side drop link is the fault.  Nearest the kerb had to replace mine twice due to our ****ty pot hole roads
