Wire under bonnet catch

Featured Replies

Anyone know what this is for? Its under the springy bit on the engine bonnet release catch. Im wondering if this could be the cause of my faulty wipers.

I doubt wires for the wipers would run round the front of the engine bay.

Only wire I can think of which is usually around that area is for the alarm sensor. Although saying that, I'm not sure if that's the case on the Octy, unless it's used to indicate the "door-open" light on the dash?

Dont they have a micro switch on the bonnet?

Sure this is used for the variable service thing as it monitors when you have checked the oil level etc?

Plus if the bonnet is open?

Mmm dont know

Sarah

maybe take a pic so we have a better idea of what we're talking about !?

I think it must be the wiring to the bonnet catch microswitch that puts the dash light on to say the bonnet is open

The car is in the workshop at the moment but i will get a pic taken of what i mean. My VRS doesnt have an alarm, the light on the dash doesnt indicate a door open if the bonnet is open either. Bit of a mystery. Its weird how when my wipers arent working i pop the bonnett and they start. Nothing is fouling them. I was thinking maybe this is the culprit!

That is a really strange problem.

R U Bobby Moore ???????

Sarah is spot on.

The switch under the catch resets the low oil level light when the bonnet is closed.

Hi Lummox

Thank you for that.

I sometimes think I dream things.

I seem to remember that I had a car in for warranty claim as the oil light was on even when the level was ok.

All switches ok but found to be a fault on the micro switch on bonnet catch?

Weired but at least I am not mad yet

Sarah

So it assumes that if you've opened the bonnet you've added oil  ??

Yup so switches the light off. Then if the level sensor says there is still to little oil in the engine the light comes back on.
