New owner question...

Featured Replies

Hi,

I picked up a new (to me) 2008 Fabia Greenline II 1.4 estate yesterday from Birmingham and drove it back to Devon. On the way the glow pug warning light started flashing intermittently and the control system for exhaust gases warning  light came on and stayed on. I also noticed that the mpg reading on the trip computer kept fluctuating, but the best result I was getting was about 60mpg while doing a steady 60mph on a flat motorway in 5th gear.

Obviously I need to get it to a garage to get diagnostics for the warning lights, but can anyone offer any suggestions...? Also I read somewhere (on here) that you can get the software updated for free... is is this something I should do and if so how do I go about organising it?

Thanks in advance!

Ben

Welcome.

First thing is to check if the car has had 'The Fix' before you picked it up, so the VW Group Emissions Re-map / New Engine Management,

because if the car is one that should have it and has had it you have a 24 month sort of Warranty from the VW Group / Skoda.

If not done and the car is one that can have The Fix, that is maybe the Free Software Update you mean.

Check your car with Skoda UK if done or still needing done.

Be sure to check if the Fix was done, and let the Main Dealers know this if they are asking you for money to diagnose the fault.

I would think it could be due to the fact it was sat on a dealer lot for a while and only taken for short city test drives therefore the DPF has filled up. Give it a couple blasts on the motorway and see if it clears.

Along with what was mentioned by headingwayoffski I would also check to see if the cars had any exhaust sensors replaced over its life. I got my Fabia 2 years ago and in the first year every now and again the coil light would come on. I ignored it for a while and just turned the car on and off and it was fine for a couple weeks.

after a while the EML light came on and the code was pointing at a duff DPF sensor. I got this replaced for something like £180 and been fine ever since (touch wood)

Plenty of knowledgeable people on here who will help.

Thank you for your swift replies and the delay in replying.

I have discovered that it is all due to a leaking intercooler... I will get that changed and hopefully the problems will be solved!
