what is good mpg and why does mine seem low

Featured Replies

just worked out my mpg and i’ve gotten it as 46.8 is this reasonable from a city go 2014 ?

If you are doing mostly shorter journeys from cold, or lots of slow stop / start traffic, it's good. If you are doing longer journeys it's possibly low depending on driving style.

Hello Ollie, welcome to the forum.

Not familiar with the CityGo - what engine and fuel?

Citigo.  1.0 MPI Petrol.

Not Turbo / No Diesels.

@ollie12345  Welcome.

Is there a service history?

When were the spark plugs replaced or the air filter? (maybe the airfilter has not been looked at for along time.)

I gather that there are two engine power options - 60PS & 70PS. Figures on Parkers for fuel use are 47 to 55 MPG.

The manufactures quoted figures are often very difficult to attain - so I'd think your 46.8 is not too bad for 'normal' driving.

Skoda Citigo 2018 MPI 85:-

Best of this year is 63.2.

Worse of this year is 52.8

VW UP 2023 MPI 66:-

Beast of this year is 62.0

Worse of this year is 55.7

Both cars do more rural than city miles though.

Fuel consumption is also worse in the colder months.

Thanks. AG Falco

completely misread it

That's good MPG for an MPi
Up! versions with turbos are a lot more efficient, and can get much better mileages.

Really, unless the MPG is miles out (no pun intended), comparisons with other users are entirely pointless.
I do a lot of regular short trips (and occasional long ones) and despite a warm-ish climate here, I get 44-45 on the short trips. I am extremely gentle, but all my trips involve very steep hills, passing places etc, 20mph zones, and I rarely get beyond 3rd gear. So, this MPG is fantastic mpg for my situation - I have driven hundreds of cars, diesel and petrol, so I'm not talking out of inexperience.  On the other hand, I can easily get 60mpg on a long gentle run.  Mine is a 75ps, and sometimes I redline it - you have to with such a weedy engine when getting past tractors etc.... The 60ps have almost identical mpg, for entirely obvious reasons, if you know the differences.

Best ever tank average was 76.6 mpg and average is 50 mpg (all brim to brim)
