Updated alignment help

Featured Replies

Just a quick request.

I've got the old problem of sawtoothing on the rear tyres and need the updated alignment settings.  It's probably just me but I can't seem to find a definitive set of measurements that I can hand over to the garage to use.

Does anyone have a simple sheet I can pass on to the garage so they can set the car up correctly?

Thanks,

Andrew.

Hi, I just had my 12 plate re-aligned yesterday, are you sure the garage needs any settings? if its a four wheel alignment machine like the Hunter one used for mine yesterday they just put the REG in and it told them what the measurements should be. I dont think the 12 plates suffered from the sawtooth problem though

The revised figures have been out for around 5-7 years.  They can't be that out of date can they?

The below isn't the factory figures but it's what I would aim for...

Have the vehicle with at least half a tank of fuel plus any extras you normally carry in the boot.

Tyres at 34-36psi

If you are morbidly obese, sit in the drivers seat.

Set the rear camber as upright as possible (around -0.75 degrees) and equal both sides.

Rear Toe-in around 1mm (total) - Maximum of 2mm.  If you like really quick turn-in, get them to toe it out a fraction (it will be a bit flighty though)

Thrust line at 0

Front camber is around -0.75 degrees.  Equal both sides or a fraction more on the LHS to counteract road camber

Toe-in around 1mm (zero if you don't mind it a bit flighty).

Casters should be equal or a fraction more on the LHS to counteract road camber

Thanks for the replies.  I'd have thought that the last alignment I had done would have been the latest settings but the inner edge scrubbing suggests otherwise.  I'll have to chat to a couple of garages and see what figures they have.

I find trying to find somewhere with the printer working to get a before and after printout is a nightmare ... I tried 4 local places and not 1 was working but the last at least let me see the figures on the machine with everything in the green.... I can't swear though they where all identical on each side

^ Labman1001, I use Pro Grip in Stirlingshire for my alignment. Always get a before and after printout.

Hi Fin69,

Yes Ive since I posted found his page on Facebook and his prices aren't that bad for a proper 4 wheel alignment and although it's a bit of a trek from Motherwell I'm planning on giving him a call next time .... A few members on the Briskoda Facebook  page recommended a place in East Kilbride but they quoted me £96 plus the VAT for it

I used to go to the Infiniti dealership at Braehead as they used to have a fixed rate of £60; plush surroundings, free coffee and  WiFi and a decent selection of newspapers and magazines.

I phoned to book back in to be informed they now charge by the hour to do this at over £100 per hour.  It took them nearly 3 hours to do my last '£60' alignment! That's when I gave Pro Grip a call!

Hi Fin69,

I've not come a cross anyone charging by the hour, yet, but charging per adjustment seems fairly common.... I don't mind paying £70-£80 for it once a year but but if it needs checking twice a year it's going to be an expensive set up.

I've found, since my original post,  that DentZap in Glasgow have a Hunter set up and are currently charging £60 plus VAT for a full 4 wheel alignment but I've not used them or know anyone who has so can't comment on their ability to do a good job and it's not much cheaper than ProGrip who you've found to do a first class job.

Hi Brad1.8T,

i was quite happy to see it on the screen given I'd enough issues even being allowed into the workshop in the first place ... It's just niggling that reading previous comments on 4 wheel alignment that although being in the green it doesn't mean they're 100% accurate for the car ....

The biggest problem I can see is getting a garage to spend even more of their time to set the alignment to the figures I'm requesting when the machine says it's well within its accepted tolerances.

Find a place that sets up race cars.
