washer jets

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I’m after some advice on my windscreen washer jets. It seems I’m having problems with them partly blocking, where only half of the windscreen washer nozzle sprays. I didn’t think this was possible due to them being the misting type? Do they just need a good clean out? And if so what with?

Many thanks

Marc

Try prodding the nozzle with an old toothbrush, anything harder is likely to damage the spray pattern. Chances are you won't clear much, you may be lucky though.

I have had one of mine apart trying to clear it, suffice to say it is now a regular water pistol type squirter.

Always fill up with clean water/screenwash/container and never just water as mould/algae will grow and cause blocks.

Mine sometimes block. I pull them out, soak them for a while in warm water and then run a high pressure air line into them. Normally clears them okay.

If no air line, sometimes a can of compressed air works. Or as MicMac said, give it a poke with a toothbrush.

Ultrasonic cleaner - Aldi special £10. Great for cleaning hard to reach little things

Thanks for the replies.

Just out of curiosity how easy are the washer jets to remove? Is it just a case of pulling them off? Or do I have to take apart half of the car? I have access to air and an ultra sonic cleaner at work.

Using screenwash designed for fan jets will stop this problem happening. The blockages are normally caused by small crystals forming in the washer jets.

After reading a few threads on here when I first got my Scout, I only buy screenwash that states on it that it is suitable for fan jets.

If it doesn't state that on the container, it may be worth sending Halfords an email to clarify, and also read the reviews to see if anyone else is experiencing the issues you are having.

I tried to remove the jets this evening after hovering the car. But was unable to get them off. Is it just a case of brute force? or something else?

Many thanks

I have had this issue, and fixed it and have a long term fix also.

Firstly if you think its just algae etc, empty the screen bottle. chuck in a few milton tabs, then boiling water(not on a frosty day tho !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

run the pump for both front and rear to flush out all the old fluid and flush through the Milton.

leave it for a few hours, then run the pump again until you have enough empty volume to add the washer fluid.

then every so often chuck one tablet in when you fill up with fluid.

this keeps all the algae and bacteria at bay, especially in the summer when its a big problem. if it still doesn't work pop the pumps out of the tank and clean the filters.

If you also buy new nozzles from skodaparts, use a hair drier to warm up the pipes as they are quite brittle, but warming them softens them enough to replace them, it works a treat on any plastic piping.
