Themal Fuse for Cigar Lighter

Featured Replies

Hi Folks, Does anyone know of a

thermal fuse in the system regards the cigar lighter as the power comes and goes ?

One minute its live then next min

its dead !

Turn off ignition and leave for few minutes then turn on ignition

and  cigar lighter live again !!??

Regards Mack.

There's no thermal fuse as far as I know. If the power is intermittently dropping out it could very well be a bad socket or just a loose connection to the socket. It could also be the part that heats up misbehaving. Have you tried monitoring the power with a meter or plug in phone charger or something like that?

@Pendoggett - I don't think there's a thermal fuse on the cigarette lighter socket, and I mostly use mine for an electric foot pump / LED inspection lamp.

Hi Folks, Thanks for the replies  I use the cigar lighter to power a internal camera, so when I fire up the Camera activates... but as I say the cigar lighter is not constant with the juice !! so I thought there may be a thermal fuse or similar of some description ?

           Regards Mack ...

The fuse is of the "Blow" fit new one type, not a thermal reset one.

Hi Folks, I know that , I have taken it out a dozen times to check it ! and there is a relay on the extreme left which I wiggle and it has a result for the juice to return to the cigar lighter ...

But then it will stop working ! thats why I thought there may be a themal fuse ...

There is no relay controlling the cigar lighter as far as I know. Also, where is this relay you are talking about?

Hi Folks, Well on my car there certainly is a relay controlling the juice to my cigar lighter !...

If you look at the row of relays under the dash driver side , then first one in line or extreme left was the one I am reffering to ! as if I remove it then the juice to the cigar lighter  is cut  and no power

it is not energised until I enable the relay. back in place...

       Regards Mack ....

If that's the case someone has re-wired yours as that is not the way it left the factory

Hi Folks, sorry to disagree but the car was a demo and we have owned it for the last 16 years and the only owners .. I do know that it has not been rewired at all

so sorry it is a normal factory unit ....

             Regards Mack ...

The supply from the battery via the 110 amp fuse does go via the relay panel, but the supply to the ciggy lighter fuse does not go via any relay, the main supply goes to the Horn & X relief relays and back out to the fuse, so by wiggling the relays you must be affecting the link on the relay bases

Hi Folks, well that may be the case, but I can only state what happens whem the relay is removed from the board ! so removal no juice to CL , then push back in juice returns to CL

Well if Icannot resolve it then I will take a new lead from the fuse circuit to CL and disconnect the old supply .. Making sure it is only activated once ignition is turned on ....
