I initially kept mine when I swopped from a roomster to a fabia 3 realising it won't fit due to it fouling the sunglasses holder 

 

I read somewhere that you need to bend the pins for the light connector upwards 

 

Can anyone confirm this ???

any festoons i have changed in a MK2 fabia i have had to bend the contacts sideways (inwards) by a few mm each side.

Sorry i didn't make it clear

I have! It's not too tricky. I cut the plastic clip off the W8 unit and soldered the adaptor harness (bought off eBay) straight to the W8 light's connectors. I threaded the backlighting wire down the A-pillar to the headlight range adjuster. You can pop the end of the dashboard off with a trim removal tool (the bit where the dashboard goes against the door when it's closed, where lots of older VAG cars had the fuse box) to gain access. 

 

I bought a unit from a Superb, so the buttons are in Skoda green. I found it on Ali Express. The downlights are red, which I initially planned to change for white ones, but actually it looks great at night. It aims nicely at the gearstick.

Wiring side of it I'm ok with it was more the modifying if the plug in was concerned about 

 

Don't suppose you have a link for the AliExpress one I found a vw unit with ref buttons

Found that one already it's identical except has green buttons to match Skoda

i have white interior lights, therefore i do not care whether it's green or red. I will change it

My part had number 3U0 947 105 as @wirer suggested. Nothing's coming up on AliExpress right now though for it.

I also wondered what superb model had them fitted and i posted a question on the MK1 superb forum but never got a response
