Advice on engine swap

Featured Replies

As much as it pains me, i have to accept that my mk1 has done its job, as has to be retired!!! best part of 10 yrs for 750 quid wasnt bad mind lol... I'm a VW & Octy fan, and i have a beautiful '97 mk3 GTI Golf that i bought from a guy in West Sussex, on Club GTI, over 13 yrs ago, drove it for 3 yrs, and its been in dry storage, under covers, for abt 10yrs.. The complete driveline is absolutely perfect in the Octavia, the 1.9 TDI's never die, and i'd love to swap the whole lot into my Golf, to make it feasible as a daily driver!!! I hate having it laying in the shed, as it's a gorgeous wee car, i'd love to be able to justify driving it..

With the fact that i'd have the complete Octavia sitting there, would it be a big job?? I don't think either cars have much in the line of fancy electronics.. I have a really really good mechanic that does the majority of my work..

Thanks for any advice..

@optifree - Er, you do realise that this also means a petrol to diesel conversion? You need to transfer all the Octy's engine electronics and fuel system, and fit new suspension to the Golf as well, and it still won't be worth as much as a Golf TDi.

Yeah Ken. I was only thinking of it to get a bit of use out of the Golf. It’s a kinda waste sitting under covers. I’ll probably end up not bothering, and just buyin another octy lol.

?

If the GTI is nearly roadworthy with a little work then is it not worth MOTing and getting some petrol in and running it?

Why wreck a valuable car?

Oh it’s completely ready for test. I got everything done abt 2 months ago. It was only a showcar up until I bought it, and it’s full Colour Concept.. There’s only around 80k miles on it from new. For my mileage, I’d just need Diesel. Ahhhh I’ll probably just let it lie and buy something else...

That’s the both of them only abt 12 months ago. I take it out and clean it regularly, then stick it back in the shed.
