Boost Loss Mk II PD 1.9

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

For a few months now, my 2007 1.9 PD (122k miles) will suddenly experience a drop in power under acceleration.  Usually in 3rd or 4th gear and at around 3,000 - 3,500 rpm.  Although it's still drive-able, there is nowhere near the amount of power normally available.  Switching the engine off and on again restores full power for a time.  I have cleaned the intake/turbo with 'Revive' which did a good job of giving the engine some of its guts back, but the problem remains.  Any suggestions?

Thanks

Bill

hi

it could be the vanes in the turbo sticking. get underneath and check the vacumn actuator link is freeby pulling and pushing

the lever. or connect a vacumn pumpto move it. if they are sticking you will have to remove turbo unbolt it in half and free them off

Thanks eddyt, that's what my local mechanic suggested, but his remedy was a new turbo. I'll have a scratch about for a reputable turbo expert.

Hi,

There's lots on here about a Mr Muscle treatment to clean inside the turbo and free the vanes/mechanism.

Have also noted in Diesel Car and Eco Car mag, that Wynns do a range of targeted cleaning additives, including one for turbos.  Did your guy mention Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve, not sure whether that would cause your symptoms at your revs.

Must say its very rare that I ever need to use such high revs with my 1,9tdi PD, which also has the variable vanes turbo, I just use Millers Eco Power fuel additive, and do an occasional 3rd gear foot-to-floor blast up a long hill, very rarely any smoke.

HTH, keep us posted.

Richard.
