Fabia 1.2 HTP Noisy Cabin

Featured Replies

Having owned my 61 plate 1.2 HTP i am enjoying the experience expect for one thing - Cabin noise! Road Noise and espcially engine noise i find is loud beyond belief. Does anyone else feel the sound proofing in these cars is poor or is it just my ears :-). The engine at times does sound like a diesel and to me sounds rough as hell, so much so i have had it to two different mechanics who say there is nothing wrong with the car its just the characteristics of the VAG 3-pot engine and nothing to worry about. My mate who owns a 1.2 polo which is the same engine tells me welcome to the diesel sounding petrol engine club :-) suppose i can turn up the radio loud to drown it out :-) Can i ask other HTP 1.2 owners what they think of the cabin noise, as i feel it's excessive

Yes they are all loud. Some call the 3 pot "full of character”. I call it a ”blooming noisy basturd". Not much you can do apart from turn the radio up.

Road noise is appalling on my pre 2010 model, so pick new tyres carefully to trim a few decibels.

I fitted the bonnet liner from the diesel model, only made the slightest improvement. Doubt if expensive sound proofing would help much.

Noisy chain/balancer design gives a loud whine around 2000 rpm thats just no fun anymore.

I did find that after being parked up for six weeks and then driven gently for the next month on the same old tank of regular, it started to feel increasing lumpy and unwilling at low engine speeds. A tankful of super unleaded and a blast down the motorway and it seemed to run better, but that may be placebo effect.

Our other 2013 1.2tsi in comparison is super quiet and smooth, im a different league.

Rubber front mats instead of fabric, if not there already.
