I have a 63 plate VRS TDI, and I am not sure if its normal or not but I have a slight metallic rattle / tinkle sound at idle, I notice it most when starting the car in the morning. It sounds like a lose bolt but a quick look in the engine bay didn't show anything obvious.

 

Is this a normal "feature" of the E288 engine? or is it a common issue? the car has a years warranty but it would be nice to give the dealer an idea what to look for if there is something wrong.

Try checking all the heat shields as likely culprits for rattles.

Check those two threads and advice if it's the same.
