1.2TSi Turbo Replacement. Refurb?

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone.

I have a 2012 1.2TSi Octavia that's covered just 35k miles. It's our runabout and not our main car hence the low mileage.

I started to feel surging in acceleration and eventually had the EPC and Engine management lights come on.

The fault P9443B suggests failure of the wastegate actuator which will require the replacement of the Turbo. The main dealers seem to be edging towards £2k for this which is getting on for half the cars value so I'm looking at options.

Has anyone had one of these Turbo's with electronic actuators removed by an independent and refurbished at a specialist?

Any advice would be welcome.

I had the exact same problem a year ago, was feeling the car had difficulties with acceleration then the lights came on along with limp mode

I went directly to an independent, they said that the actuator is not sold as a separate part so either i can buy whole original turbo which was around 800 pounds ( i am in eastern Europe) or just to buy a Germqn replacement actuator ( new) which was around 200 bucks, i chose the second one :) they did the adaptation good, even it felt better than original one.

I never bothered to ask for the brand of it or checked but i can pop the hood if you would like to check the part.

I am not sure if you need to change whole turbo, i would check for sure with a different garage, that is a lot of money

From what I've read most suggest the actuator is matched to the turbo and if a new actuator is fitted it must be re-calibrated.

That might be correct, however, i have never had any issues after fitting that, time will show.

About the recalibration, if the garage is specialized on VW group cars, I believe they should have the right tools for it.

Good luck
