Any idea if any other octavia model box would fit my mk1 vrs? Or equally would a say mk iv golf/gti/r32 box fit?? Would the part numbers be the same across the vag cars, would be the handiest way of checking i reckon...

When you ask ths fella at the breakers will something fit surprisingly the answer is ALWAYS yes:)

Have a guy with a box said it would fit mine

He said its an EVS code mk4 platform 1.8t box

That sound like right box?

Also said he bought it from guy who said was a known good box and its 50 smackers which is good value in ireland

Well it will probably fit, but that box is specced for the AGU and AUM engine codes on the Octavia. I would expect the gear ratios to be fractionally different, but if you can give me 2 or 3 hours, I'll come back with some ratio info for you to be sure.

The big thing for the fit point of view is that the first motion shaft has the same number of splines to fit the clutch plate in your car now.

Great info there from @kentphil1:)

The VRS should have an EHA 'box. Presumably the replacement will need to have the same drive shaft flange diameter (108mm)?

Most of the other gearboxes for 1.8 engines have similar ratios to the EHA one. I wouldn't fit a diesel 'box as the ratios are longer and the VRS ratios seem long to me already.

Thanks a mil for looking that up for me Phil. So going by that info the EVS code and the EHA are practically identical, slight difference in ratios in 4th and 5th gear. Both have 108mm shaft size so it would be ok

What do the ratios actually refer to. Is it gear sizes? Sorry no experience with this...

Another guy closer to home said he also has a box would do, will find out what code it is.

Theres couple of vids on youtube of remove and replace the clutch, both on VW,  will look on here for a guide also

According to @kentphil1 info above the EVS and EHA are both 108mm. What do the ratios refer to about each gear?? Ill give it a google:)

Gotcha! thanks again:)

sent a pm to Groupvrs1 also about a conversion to SMF and G60 flywheel after reading another thread on here. seems to be a popular change up for the clutch and from what i can tell a better value route to go with it. so be interesting to see what he has to say!

I wouldn't touch either of those - they don't seem to list what brand the parts are. Have a search for other threads on SMF conversions - it has been well covered before.

Has the clutch been replaced before? Why not keep the DMF and just replace the clutch? DMF failures on 1.8Ts seem to be quite rare.

Anyone know if this tool will work replacing clutch in mk1 vrs octy

http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductMobileDisplay?storeId=11101&productId=203553&srch=Clutch+allignment&categoryId=317962&langId=-1&catalogId=15551

Am going with a conversion kit to smf if that makes any difference

Guys has anyone used one of these tools doing the clutch. Says for single plate clutches and ones with no pilot bearing!??

ok.have the parts to go in...regarding the driveshafts in making room to take out the transmission do I just unbolt the 6 bolts on each shaft at the engine end of them or do I need to completely remove the shafts or maybe the passenger side shaft?

Its the one bit on a few different videos Ive watched thats not 100% clear...can someone explain a bit whats best way to go. I know a lot of guys on here have done the clutch!!

thanks
