Skoda Connect WiFi No Internet Connection

Featured Replies

I hope this will help anyone else with this Issue: I have a 2017 Octavia Combi 230VRS with Amundsen media player and Infotainment online. I set up my Skoda Connect account online and followed the instructions and received my pin by email. Followed the wizard and Hey Presto, Map updates , road work alerts, fuel prices, news all working flawlessly.

Unfortunately after one week of picking up the vehicle the media screen on the Amundsen went blank as I was driving to the airport for a family holiday ( could faintly hear the radio but unable to get the touch screen to work. So totally locked out. Parked up and thought I will book this in when I get home.

After arriving back ( 1 week ) I started up the car and everything seemed to be working again. ( I had carried out the obvious ignition off/ on before I parked the car up ). So all ok until 2 days later when the message No Data Connection and or No Internet connection appeared every time I tried to access Skoda connect and the wlan symbol next to the white globe had disappeared from the display.

Could not get it to connect at all but could access the internet through my phone and laptop. I have a 3 WiFi dongle plugged into the cigarette lighter I do not use my phones hotspot. To cut a long story short Skoda Rochdale carried out a full factory reset of the car ( I could of done that ! ) asked me to delete my online account from the skoda connect portal, wait 24hrs until confirmation email from Skoda that the account had been deactivated and then set up again receiving a new pin and using my previous email address and password etc.

Set up car again with wizard and worked straight away. One week later No Internet. Carried out the above myself this time. Worked for 8 weeks ish and then No Internet.  As you can imagine this is like getting a new phone and setting it up again every couple of weeks and TBH getting a bit ****ed off with it.

Anyway its gone off again this morning so joined this forum to pass on my experience. I have found a quicker way to get it to connect. Settings Menu-System Settings-Skoda Connect ( on line services )- Factory settings Skoda Connect ( on line services ) Not the whole car reset !!!!!!!  which Skoda Rochdale told me to do. Just entered my lastest of 4 or 5 pins that had been reissued in the past and it worked straight away took all of 1 min to do and no more resetting radios, Bluetooth, time, internet account and so on !

It appears to me that Skoda dealers are charging Skoda 1 1/2 hours labour on warranty for a 1 min reset job. :(

  • Yeah, thats right, we 'only' have the Amundsen, which is why i was surprised when I though it had a hotspot. I may research dongle sim plans, but i've got 20Gb on my phone and thats getting a new batt

  • I just had an email from connect saying it takes up to 10 DAYS before I can reuse my email address!

What hardware version have you got on your Amundsen? Mine only shows the wifi fan type signal strength symbol, not the globe with the word WLAN next to it.

  • 2 months later...

Picked my 230 up on Saturday and I've just had the 'no internet' trying to set mine up and the globe is red. I think I can WLAN to connect my phone if I want, but the car has no connection so i can't register with my PIN. Anyone any idea whats wrong? Were they supposed to give me a sim card or something? I've been in IT for the past 13 years and i can't work it out.....

Is your Skoda Connect account set up correctly if the globe is red?

i assuem so.... I created it, got a PIN and the car won't let me enter the pin because I'm not online. Vicious circle!

are you using a dongle or your phone for internet connection. I do believe there is a problem with EE and skoda which is being worked on at present. Mine has behaving for months now after earlier problems mentioned previously in this post.

right this is the issue. I need to provide the internet connection to the car. I was under the impression it had a built in 3G connection which was skoda connect.....

What's the point of having a wifi hotspot if it doesn't have a connection! So i need to get a 'carstick' I presume, but then that would use up my USB port, may as well us my phone as the hot spot in the first place!

Yes I agree its not thought through very well. I have a dongle under my seat powered by the cigarette lighter. I think the car stick is expensive and as you say it plugs into the usb so you would be unable to use apple car play android auto or mirror link at the same time. I take it you have the Amundsen head and not a Columbus ( I think the Columbus has a phone sim card slot )

I agree  does seem silly to sell the car as having a 'wifi hotspot' when you end up using your phone or a dongle to make it functional!

I also started a thread on this frustrating issue.  I knew that the car relied on an external WiFi source for the Skoda Connected to work on the latest Amundsen.  I have a decent data package with ny phone so in theory, no problem.  What I hadn’t counted on is that there is a known issue somewhere between Skoda, EE (and other providers who use their network) and Apple.  With a lot of faffing, I can get it to work with my phone.  But it soon drops out and is totally useless.  I begrudge buying a dongle and data package when I have a perfectly good phone.

Daft thing is, parked in the drive, it links almost immediately with my home WiFi enabling me to upload destinations input to the app.  The nuisance is, without a reliable data connection the traffic updates don’t work.  The other features of Skoda Connected I can happily live without.

Of course the feature is only free for the first year - unless Skoda take responsibility for resolving these issues they won’t be seeing many subscribers!

agree completely. If only I could get rid of the damned red globe in the display i'd just ignore it!

Whilst I get the need to use an external WiFi source to drive ŠkodaConnect, I too don’t see the point of the WiFi Hotspot.  May as well connect your device to that rather then piggyback the system in the car - or am I missing something.

Think it would be useful for those with little data on their phone package. They could get a giffgaff sim or something and use a USB dobngle for streaming music instead of their phones, but for those with decent data packages it’s relatively redundant. I connected up to my home wifi yesterday and it till would register connect even though the car ad a good connection. Will try to delete/recreate my account today and try again. As I’m on EE I will probably end up buying a mobile internet access point and leaving in the car. Internet traffic seems useful and I can use car play to stream music from my phone anyway.

So I connected it to my home wifi and still wouldn't connectto skodaconnect....
I did a reset as described in the car and deleted my account online, got the email to say account deleted, but now it won't let me recreate my account? Anyone any ideas? (other than give up and just drive it, because "it's a car, not a computer" as my grandad would've said...)

I just had an email from connect saying it takes up to 10 DAYS before I can reuse my email address!

So, I manged to create a new account with an old email address that goes to the same mailbox. I'll try changing it back in a couple of weeks once the system has forgetten me properly.

Any way I think i've managed to get it working, so thought i'd post to share with anyone else on EE.

I've got a tiny amount of experience with networking so i was getting frustrated at it not working. Now, it doesn't seem any worse than than any other iPhone hotspot experience, which i've always foudn a bit hit and miss. Firstly, if you have an iPhone on iOS11 you need to make sure personal hotspot is on on and dicoverable (it hides itself and stays on after a while as i found out when i came back to the car after 10 mins in Tesco and it wouldn't reconnect. The next part I'm still experimenting with, but i've not gone out this afternoon and if i sit on the drive playing my wife just calls me a loser...

Either a connection via wifi hotspot take a reasonable amount of time to connect, but if you leave it and then open Skodaconnect, it will work.

OR

You can tether it when you plug it in to the USB port (with hotspot on and discoverable) and it will connect and continue working after you unplug. I think tethering via cable will also work as at some point yesterday, the globe was white but it didn't say WLAN next to it, and it still worked (this was with hotspotting turned off, because I was also using car play to try and get the OneSkoda app working, but more of that on a different thread...).

I'm driving the vRS to work tomorrow so I'll carry on experimenting to try and confirm these methods.

Have you got a Columbus or Amundsen head unit? My Amundsen doesn’t have a globe, but a standard Wi-fi fan type symbol instead. Are you saying you can tether it via USB, or do you mean connect to the personal hotspot whilst it’s plugged into CarPlay?

Amudsen on a FL Octavia. The globe and WLAN text are centre left of the clock at the top of the screen. What I'm saying at the moment is I'm not sure if:

  • Connecting to an EE iPhone over wifi hotspot is particularly slow (I've found it unreliable on everything, regualrly having to turn the hotspot on/off/on to make a connection actually access the interent).
  • Plugging it in with hotspot enabled then forces it to connect and it continues to work after unplugging.

As a side note I mentioned that when i disabled hot spot on the phone while it was connect via CarPlay I retained a white globe icon (its red when i have no connction) and had access to Skodaconnect. so I guess carplay also tethers it?

Intend to test it more on commute tomorrow when i have time to check different factors. Sorry if I wasn;t clear earlier. I'm at least happier that i can get it working without buying another accesspoint as I have 20GB on my phone that I never use
