Mirrors

Annoying mirror adjustment on my 2010 octavia elegance.... adjusting the offside mirror also moves the nearside mirror, can this be changed? I dont have the dot matrix menu

It is a feature to allow you to move both mirrors down together in circumstances where this is a benefit, such as reversing into a tight gap with things on both sides where you might want to see white lines or rear wheels. Both mirrors can then be reset back to the normal position in just one press.

It is a bit of a Marmite feature; you either love it or hate it.

If you hate it then just adjust the offside mirror first followed by the nearside and it is then just like having independent control.

Many people forget which one to adjust first so I know your frustration.

I don't know any way to do what you ask.

Thanks for the information, I appreciate the benefits stated, I just find it irritating when I make a minor adjustment on the offside mirror only to find the nearside mirror has moved also.

Shame I can't choose to change it to independent as on the later dot matrix menu system.

Incidentally, the mirrors on the Octavia are wonderfully large.

I think you can change this with VCDS. You should check the owners map in the VCDS section to see if there is someone local.

Just remembered another benefit and it is probably the one intended. When you have two drivers who are different heights and have different seat positions (like my wife and I), you find that you need about the same movement out/in and up/down on both mirrors when changing drivers. So if you both adjust the mirrors with just the offside switch only, you have the right movement on both sides and you don't need to adjust both sides separately. Pity you still have to adjust the interior mirror manually!

I should add that I have been driving VAG cars for some years (they all have this feature) and I have got used to it and can see the benefits.

I agree about the good visibility in the mirrors, one of the best. Perhaps too the reason I rarely micro adjust my mirrors.
