Headlight upgrade

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of a way to legally improve the headlight output of a Fabia Monte Carlo 2012 model, I like the look of the black headlights but they aren’t really up to the job if you want to drive at more than 40 mph in the dark. I might consider replacing the entire headlight units if that’s the only option but I don’t really want to spend £100’s if it’s not necessary. Thanks

HID kit. 6000K

Is it Headlight on Dipped Beam that is the problem, or also when on Full beam?

seems a common request, Skodas are definitely duller, coupled with darker motorways. they have been switched off near me to save money for the council. The Phillips h7 L.E.D I am keeping a close eye on, but they are £150 a pair. Need to see them in Action, not road legal but in the dull mk2 I think would be ok but still less output than HID's

Is that really pertinent? You will only be driving on full beam on unlit roads without any oncoming vehicles... Don't want folk to start sticking on fully beam just to see everything without realising that the higher aim of said light will dazzle everyone coming the other way. Get enough of that with ****s who think that dark evenings mean fog lights are needed! Great to see further, devastating to oncoming motorists retinas!

Foglights? No definitely not further, they light up the road in front of the car for use in thick fog, or at least mine do. This is one of my annoyances and i think most do it because they want to look 'cool'. They don't. I just flick my fogs on and off as i go past to see if they get the message.(they usually don't). At least they are better than the DRL only drivers who dont understand headlights.

As for your fabia, yes get a HID kit. 4300k will give you best light and look OEM. 5000k gives a slightly nicer look but less visible light. 6000k is just for looks really the light output quickly diminishes with human eyes as you go up the kelvin scale

mrgf,

yes if driving on unlit roads with Full Beam on and the are 60 mph NSL and full beam is not good enough you really have sh!t lights.

If full beam is OK and dipped beam when required is rubbish then as long as not causing dazzle to oncoming drivers or even pedestrians/ cyclists etc then there are various options obviously.

Sometimes head for thinking, feet for dancing.

quite pertinent to some to ask as it depends if you have lights with 2 bulbs at right and left or 1 and shutters.

Being a 2012 probably the later lights unless someone changed them as some do. The bulbs can already be changed as well.

Mk2 vRS early clear glass lights with 2 bulbs can be total crap with standard dipped beam and yet the full beam can light up your world.

And changing just the dipped beam can be enough to make driving on dipped beam safer,

as can adjusting the lights as many are badly set, especially on a lowered car.

Good point, well made. I was thinking more in the lines of someone thinking "Yeah, I'll drive on F/B to see, sod the oncoming traffic"! There are enough idiots who do that as it is but yeah, better dipped will be a whole lot safer. As Clarendon 462 said, most "Dazzlers" Don't get the message, they even put MORE lighting on if you try and warn them of their "Oversight" The DRL driver... How many of them drive, still on DRL, at night with NO REAR LIGHTS as they just have lighting up front and on their dash pod?  Ignorant, stupid or plain dangerous- You decide!

I had 3 more modern but dangerous cars with really bad Dipped Beam from new.

a Saxo, an iQ and a Picanto and all were better with upgraded bulbs, and sorted.

A Mk2 Fabia vRS was worse than all of those and still not much better with better dipped beam.

then there were that crap DRL's / Sidelights blinding or just annoying other drivers if enabled. No Fog lights though.
