Central locking problem

Featured Replies

Out on a shoot today, driving between drives (I know, to non shooters, that may sound odd) when a chap in an Audi - A5 or A6 not sure which - stopped to have a word with a couple of the guns. He parked his car, came out and shut the driver's door, leaving the engine running. When he went back to the car, he could not get in - all the doors were locked ! One of the guns gave him a run home (half a mile away) to get his spare set of keys. Turned out they were no help - the car still would not open, just sat there ticking over. Don't know the outcome, but will try to find out.

Reminds me of the tale of a chap doing some contract work at a Borstal many years ago, who locked himself out of his car with the keys inside. He went back in and asked the warden if any of the inmates were in for TWOCing. "Darren's the one you want" he said. Chap asked Darren if he could get into his car for him, to which he got the reply "of course I can, but I want a written guarantee of no comeback from you or the warden." Once he had the bit of paper in his hand, Darren picks up a brick and smashes the driver's door window...........

Audi owner had called the AA out, so perhaps they found a way into the car that didn't involve smashing a window. I have seen this problem in the past with a Range Rover, where one of the passenger doors was not fully shut and the car locked itself (with the keys in it) until the door was closed properly and then the locks opened. That was not the issue here.

It'll be interesting to know how the car locked itself, whether this is regular issue with Audis, and if there is a simple work round.
As the Audi uses much of the same software and equipment as Skoda, has anyone had this problem with a Skoda ?
