Please advise re battery unable to cope with Blackvue security system. Can anyone advise?

Items replaced but battery running just under 100% but dealer states in excellent order.

The battery management system doesn't keep the battery at 100% - it has to allow battery capacity for the alternator regenerative braking/charging to work with.

I read somewhere than cars with start stop and battery management dont like dash cams being left on in park mode.

I have a Blackvue 650s-2CH, front and rear Dash Cams fitted. They are hard wires in but run Via a Power Magic Pro, it protects the battery to prevent battery drain by cutting power to the Dash Cams.  I have normal and parking mode enabled. the parking mode is activated by a proximity sensor, one miniut recording then goes back to sleep. This makes it 24 hour recording. Never had a problem with the battery. The other benifit is with it having built in wiFi, I can monitor the Dash Cam footage from anywhere providing my phone/tablet is using WiFi.  If the event mode is activated the dash Cam sends me a Text.

If the cam is permanently connected and drawing off the car battery, it will discharge the battery quicker than the vehicle electrical system designed draw rate. Therefore, when the engine is running, you may find that the stop start operation is less frequent as the electrical system is having to recharge the battery. You will probably find that it is taking longer into a journey to get the first activation of S/S after being parked up for a period of time.

As a consequence of frequent discharging and recharging of the battery (cycling), the life expectancy of the battery will be shortened requiring replacement sooner rather than later. Deeper the discharge, longer to recharge - shorter the battery life if frequently repeated. If the battery is never fully recharged, it decays faster still until failure.

A flat battery is not a warranty failure so the dealers are not necessarily going to change it FOC.

The vehicle electrical architecture keeps the battery at full charge for maximum life expectancy but switches charging in and out when required depending on system loading and battery voltage. If the dealer says it’s OK using test equipment, it probably is at that point in time. Test again tomorrow after the cam has been fitted and car stood for 10 hours, you will get a different condition.

The current draw rate (in amps) of the fitted cam will determine how long it will take to flatten the battery completely.

There are many forum users running the BlackVue and as Mr Goldfinger suggests a power magic system is recommended as it will prevent the cam from draining the battery unecessarily.

Without a good power management system for the dashcam, there are quite a few people who have had problems with high current dashcams draining the battery & popping warnings about high battery drain or stopstart errors when they are left connected 24-7.
