Water pump type

Featured Replies

Evening all.

I have the dreaded water pump failure (2014 Octavia)

I e had a dealer tell me it’s an electric pump and another say it’s cambelt driven. Plus 2x independents tell me the same (one says elec, one says Cambelt)

can anyone one tell me what to look/where to look to confirm what it is?

thanks

I know that my Octy 2 1.6 CR TDI engine had 2 water pumps. One driven by the cam belt and another electric auxiliary pump. I got the main belt driven pump changed when the belt was changed. Later got error message pop up and had to change the auxiliary pump.

I guess that’s could explain the confusion. Thanks

Perhaps the confusion is because its both?

Its definately belt driven as many people have had the belt changed at the same time as the pump.

However, the actuation (how much water flows from the engine circuit or from the cold side) is electronically controlled by a sleeve.

This is the part that causes the problem when the sleeve sticks.

If you get it done at a Skoda dealer, most people seem to have been able to negotiate a contribution of 50% towards the costs from Skoda.
