Featured Replies

Had the car serviced  at 20 k, just had to put a litre  of long  life  oil  in at 26k , is this normal  oil change  due  in another  12200 , and while  I'm here  does the 1.4 150 tsi have a limited slip diff

Did you check the oil level after the service - was it full?

No LSD, you have EDL  / XDS.

Did you check the Oil level when the car was collected from the service, do you check cold and as per the owners manual at Operating Temperature.

Knowing the difference it shows on the dipstick?  (Not a 'warm' check if the owners manual wrongly has that translation.)

Was there a Low Oil warning light on, or message or Red Low Oil Pressure light showing.

Be aware that opening the bonnet puts out warning lights even if no oil added, and for 60 miles,

so check again at Operating Temperature the oil level is correct.

Oil was at the right mark on the stick after the service, and I checked it last Tuesday, still on the mark, yellow light came on  tonight and it took 1 litre, oil checked every Tuesday before my week starts, didn't check this week as I had to rush out, yet it was still at the top mark last week

?

Was that at top of the cross hatch when oil / engine stone cold,

or when at 'Operating temperature' ie certainly above 50*oC better at 80*oC indicated oil temperature?

Not just after a few minutes ticking over as Technicians check and then have the oil level too low only too often.

('Are you telling me how to check oil, do you know i am a crap trained Main Dealership fitter!;)

Dip it tomorrow morning cold, engine not started, and then compare after doing a journey.

It should be higher up the dipstick cold with all oil having drained down to the sump overnight.

always checked when cold, and on level ground outside my house

& where is it checked cold.

With all the oil in the sump it should be above the Crosshatch area.  'A'.  as in the Owners Manual.

If you check it 'at operating temperature' on the flat after a few minutes after stopping where is it on the dipstick?

Have you compared the sensible 'Cold check' against a VW Group recommended check. All at Operating Temperature?

(only 1.2 44kw engines checked cold)

Lets hope the Long Life oil 5w 30 FS LL VW 504 00 & Variable / Flexible / Long Life Servicing does not just continuing having some Euro 6 1.4 TSI as excessive oil users as happened with some Euro 4 & Euro 5's.

First,  check under the car for evidence of oil leaks. If you can see the sump, are there oil drips hanging underneath? Run your finger or some kitchen roll over the sump and other underneath areas. Any oil?

Could be they didn't tighten the sump plug or oil filter correctly, or even worse could be cross threaded. Or pulled something out like the pcv valve while changing the air filter.
