Oil use 65k plus miles

Featured Replies

New to Skoda and coming upto 2 months of owning the car, fabia mk 2 vrs. Car was sold serviced and full Mot. Oil level was fine as checked upon delivery, after 3 weeks got a warning light for oil and it had used a litre of oil. Seemed strange but topped it up and carried on. I have since had another warning and topped it up with another 1.5 - 2 litres. No leaks on my drive or obvious clouds of smoke so I’m a bit concerned? The car hasn’t covered more than 1k miles and has had minimum 2.5 litres of oil!

Unfortunately there is a history of excessive oil consumption on these cars. Reject the car (ie return to seller) if possible. It’s burning the oil, the cat prevents it making visible smoke.

Welcome to the forum.

Did you buy from a dealership?

Sadly the issue you have is well known as are what can be done to reduce the oil use in some,

it appears though your engine is beyond that.

So is your car one built before late 2012 so a CAVE engine, or late 2012 on CTHE.

The Pinned thread on 'high oil use' is at the top of this section. Then dozens of threads over the past 7 years.

Check and see if your car ever had remedial work already done,

an engine rebuild, new rings and pistons.

Breather pipe / valve mod & software update,

New Oil Spray Jets (squirters) & a Software Update,

or a replacement engine.

Skoda UK CS can tell you the service and warranty history.

You had the likes of EVO Magazine with a 'Long Term Test' VW Polo GTI 1.4 TSI Twincharger that used excessive oil, and yet they or the author dismissed it as do VW as 'Normal'.

Then an EVO journalist joined here and asked about the cars and wrote a pretty good 'Buyers Guide' and published it on the Fabia vRS as a used car.

Pity they had the VW problem when reporting on the Polo, deaf dumb and blind and believing the VW Group.

*No Recalls by the way.*  TPI's, that is not recalls.
