Virtual Pedal Query

Featured Replies

I have a 2017 plate Superb Estate L&K but this does not appear to have a working virtual pedal for opening the tail gate although I thought this was standard on all L&K models for this year.  Anyone else experienced similar?

I assume you have "Easy Opening" enabled in the 'Car > Opening and Closing' menu?

Yes but no amount of foot waggling seems to make any difference.  I just though this was standard on L&K, even on a car built in Dec 2016.  I wonder if this has anything to do with where it was built although clearly it was built for UK market being a Right Hand Drive.

You're correct that the L&K comes with the virtual pedal as standard and you only have the "easy opening" option in the infotainment if you have the virtual pedal.

Waggling your foot has no effect. It needs a single short forward kick under the centre area of the rear valance with the fob in your possession.

It takes a second or two before it starts to open. The rear lights will briefly flash.

You should also take a step back after kicking as there appears to be some kind of proximity sensing that prevents it opening if you're stood too close.

Once I got the hang of it and stopped banging my shin on the bumper I've had 100% success.

In addition it will not work for about 20 seconds after locking the doors (the same applies to using the release on the tailgate).

Billy Jim many thanks for the very thorough advice. Incidentally I have just came back from visiting a local Skoda dealer who also got it to work as you have stated. I obviously wasn't doing it right and thought it was down to not being suffiently well endowed in the foot department.

Funny this, I was just trying this with my new L&K estate today, didn't work for me either.

On our Kodiaq one wave and the foot and it opens everytime

I had exactly the same issue, waggling foot left and right. Then I RTFM'd and got it working :)

As Billy Jim described move foot in and out once (not side to side) and step back. Rear lights flash and It takes a second or so to start opening.

My first S3 was very hit and miss with the virtual pedal; I was always expecting to appear as a viral video from my antics. However the current S3 is the opposite as it works every time with a simple 'hokey cokey' movement of the appropriate limb ;) In fact in many ways it is a bit too sensitive.

The first was an estate but this one is a hatch so I dont know whether that may be the difference. I suspect, however, that it is a basic grade sensor taped in position in the rear bumper assembly and that may be the cause of the problem. misalignment? not stuck fully? etc etc

For some reason I find it’s easier to trigger the virtual pedal when the car is locked. When it’s not locked it seems much harder to get it to work.

I put my left foot in. And my left foot out. Don't forget to shake it all about...:D

My 2017 model (late 2016 manufacture) had a recall to fix faulty software for this so check this doesn't apply to you.

Thanks Auswede but now I have learnt how to use it it works just fine.  I was the only person who didn't know how as the dealer selling me the vehicle didn't told me it didn't have a virtual pedal function. It was only when looking the owners manual that I stated to think it was standard on my model/trim level.

Please all working ok now.

Just to let you know that I had similar issues and it was infact a faulty sensor, which now replaced works just as it should.

I thought it was more of a 'kick' than a 'waggle' of the foot ? I've lost count of the number of times my shin has hit the bumper....
