Car stalling when clutch put in

I've had my car a few weeks now and all is well except for a couple of minor niggles and one that could be major.

Every now and then, the car will stall when I'm changing gear. It's not stop/start. a few times I've been changing down when approaching a junction and travelling at around 15-20 mph, change down a gear whilst braking for the turn and the engine cuts out. Today, I was stopping at a traffic light and the engine stopped whilst I was stationary but still had my foot on the clutch. In total, it's happened maybe a half dozen times in the 800 miles I've driven in it so far.

Is this something that anyone else has experienced / heard of?

This is normal fro a 110bhp. I had one and found that it needed more revs to pull away than I expected also didn't like being below 1200 rpm in top gear. Once I got used to this it was fine fine.

I then changed to a 140 and that drove exactly I expected.

With the 110 bhp it's not helped by having 5 gears with widely spaced ratios. I sometimes change up and have to change down again as the engine starts to lug/struggle.

In top I never let the revs drop below 1500, and that's on the level or going downhill, and only if maintaining a steady speed. If I want to accelerate I have to change down to fourth.

Even with 170+ hp I still don't let revs go below 1500 its just not right.

I do find the gear change indicator in maxidot annoying as it tells me to change up way earlier than I feel is right.

Doesn't help fuel economy though.

Once again the programming is aimed at lowest CO2 emissions.......and VW’s ongoing apology.

If economy is your priority it makes sense but if you prioritise a particular way of driving it’s like ss - you’re stuck with it, it seems.

Thanks all for your suggestions
