DSG in manual mode

Featured Replies

On previous automatic cars I have always been able to start in 3rd gear as a driving aid for slippery roads (snow ice etc). However the DSG box in my Superb 3 will only allow 1st gear starts. This means you have to be very light with the throttle.

Has anybody found a way around this - a manual box is not an option.

Light with the throttle is just perfect, and tyres suitable for the conditions.

& TC off in situations as described in the Owners Manual.

Eco mode also helps, makes the already fairly dull throttle response even more sluggish.

Managed an uphill start on a 12% slope covered in 3-4cm of slushy snow this morning, not a problem (winter tyres).

The DSG box is not an automatic in the classic sense, and the two clutches won’t put up with a 3rd pull away.  There is no torque converter to ease the torque in as a true auto has.
