Sidelight bulb holders (bi-halogen headlights) - Fabia II GreenLine

Featured Replies

Morning all

I'm the proud owner of a 2010 Fabia GreenLine and I'm slowly making it my own. One of these things is swapping out the sidelights for LED ones.

Whilst I can squeeze my hand in the space available, I can't get the bulb holders to move! Are the push fit? Do they have tabs to squeeze? Are they twist fit? If so, which way do they need to be twisted.

Thanks in advance

Aaron

They are a very tight push fit! Difficult to pull off so take care not to rip the wiring out. The Haynes manual suggests removing the wheel arch lining, which may be worth removing the wheel too in this instance. (Time, effort not being an issue). Otherwise, I used a pick tool I got a set of from eBay, which is like a bent small screwdriver. Be careful not to cut the wiring with it though. I think the car was assembled by small children!

P.S. I have a 59 plate Greenie. Got LED's in the interior light cluster and in the boot and glovebox, where I fitted actual complete units. The pair cost around £7 from China and are nice and bright although I had to gently file a little from the sides of the hole as the new lights were a slightly tight fit and I didn't want to break them. I also have LED numberplate lights fitted. Apart from the glovebox and boot light, the rest were just bulb replacements. I also fitted silver tech indicator bulbs front and rear, to get rid of the orangey-ness of the original bulbs. Looks a lot nicer! A common upgrade is to fit sunglass holders into the roof where the blank plate is. Easy, cheap and worthwhile mod. Underseat boxes too, fit this category.

Thanks for the confirmation! I'll have another go in the light tomorrow.

As my username suggests, I'm not new to the VAG family, and so have been lucky enough to swap out my interior LEDs (not glovebox or boot though) and LED number plate lights from my Mk4 Golf. The sidelights were the ones that had me flummoxed (and the weird dipped/main beam headlight set up).

I now longingly look at the 2011 face-lift lights and imagine just how much easier they are to change!

Thanks for the tip on the subject glasses holder. I noticed the blank and imagined it would be an easy upgrade.

Here's to 50mpg+ motoring...

My 13 plate (facelift) Greenie's Side lights are just as horrible and difficult to replace!! Especially if (like me) you have hands the size of Dinner Plates!!

I did the Sunglasses thinngy, and the interior lights (just the three in the headlining) are LED's, though they do work loose and, unlike normal incandescent, they are sensitive to vibration and it can be like a disco in there sometimes!

I don't have an issue with my interior LED replacements apart from the light is strange, compared to the usual incandescent bulbs. Fit well and no disco! Glad I did the boot interior now and MAY just invest in an additional one and wire it to the standard one, cutting the hole on the righthand side myself. I also have a pair of LED H7 headlights to fit, which I got for  tenner! I am not expecting much of them though but hey! - I might be pleasantly pleased by them. Its the type that have the little cooling fans and can cost quite a bit, depending on where/which type you get so a tenner is worth a try and if they look good but don't last too long, a quality set might be the natural follow-on. (I usually use Osram Nightbreakers up front)!
