VRS at 160 bhp on rolling road as standard

Featured Replies

Just had my VRS mapped at Celtic tuning (great service btw) and it read 160bhp before the remap! The car has not been chipped as far as I know and Celtic found no evidence of previous remaps. I know that all cars from production lines can be variable but can this really be possible? Final rolling road read out was 183bhp and the car definitely feels quicker and revs to red line with no drop off which is nice.

Any opinion on this would be greatly received.

There have been a few that have read 160bhp. But I'd suspect the dyno is over reading especially if your final numbers are 183bhp.

The norm for a standard pd130 remapped is around 165-170bhp.

So with this in mind it is a bit like the mpg reading from the onboard computer.  When it reads 54 mpg it really means 45 mpg. My car then was probably 150 at the dyno and is now about 170. Still, it feels much better after the remap! Thanks for the info.

Dynos are not accurate, all you need to know is that there was a ~15% increase in BHP which proves the remap was effective, it doesn't matter what the actual numbers are, only that they allow a reasonably accurate comparison between the 'before' and 'after' measurements.

Indeed; I could achieve a ~10%bhp increase in reported dyno power simply by driving the test vehicle from Emerald in Norfolk over to Jabbasport and comparing the data from both.

The FL Fabia MKI Vrs ( 06 plate onwards I think ) supposedly had more BHP than the earlier models.  I had a Red FL version ( 06 ) and it felt faster than my (04 plate ) which was Superchipped.

Were the Engines different, the earlier ones had a AZT engine I think and the later ones had a BLT Engine or have I dreamt it

Thanks for all the info. I agree that the dyno would have a degree of inaccuracy and is used to show power differences before and after. Safe to say the differences are noticeable and worth the expenditure, although due to the festivities the car is sitting unused at the moment!

Its well known that the pd130 always made more than 130bhp as standard, and as already said the blt cars made more than the earlier asz engines due to iirc slightly different factory mapping.

My ASZ always made around 130-135bhp on dyno’s.

BLT’s make more power as standard as they run increased fuel compared to the ASZ.
