Tool tax query

Before Christmas a mate was telling me he'd used one of these tax claim back firms to claim back tax against his tools purchased in last four years. Now I've bought a sizeable amount of tools in last few years but struggling to find any info on the case. Is it a matter of filling in a P78 as I'm an employee as opposed to a firm? Anyone had any experience in doing this and any tips?
