Hi all...I am losing coolant (from max to min in a few days, driving only about 100 miles)

Skoda fabia 1.9 tdi pd 3 57 plate

Yesterday as I drove off liquid from ? Pedal area leaked onto my feet...didnt particularly smell like coolant and we have had a lot of rain...but do you think this is heater core and source of coolant loss?
Also approx cost to fix? Thanks

Any signs of overheating? (steam from under bonnet, raised engine temperature, increased fan duty cycle)

An easy check is the coolant temp switch/sensor screwed into the back of the radiator (ie between rad and engine),if it is badly stained with coolant colour it usually means a leak,I sorted our polo coolant loss with a slight tweak up of the switch (and I do mean slight - prob not more than one sixteenth of a turn).

If not that then yes could be heater matrix, rad leak, water pump leak or even a hose failure.

Could also be classic head gasket failure.

Welcome.

First off do not fill to MAX.   Leave between MIN & MAX,  as there is no FILL TO THIS LEVEL.

Then see if between MIN & MAX there is a loss of coolant after the car has been up to operating temperature on a run, then allowed to cool.

?

Was the Anti Freeze (Summer Coolant) mix strong enough if you have had freezing weather or have you maybe now got a leak due to weak Antifreeze / Coolant?

You need a proper diagnosis now, a pressure test of the system.

Hi all

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated!

I took the fabia on a good run yesterday, and for first minute got very wet feet..then no leak.

Pretty sure this was rainwater and not coolant.

The coolant I am using is comma stream g30 - some sites suggest g40 but thought I couldn't mix so not really sure what to do there!

Still losing coolant though...so likely causes are head gasket or water pump? The car seems to run fine, no signs of overheating.

MOT Due in a couple of weeks so at the point of do I trade in/scrap or spend potentially lits of money on it and keep what is essentially a good car?

Did you have a look at the temp switch down behind the Rad ?

VW group cars do tend to suffer from these either loosening over time or the seal degrading over time,on our Polo the radiator was very badly stained around the switch,I just tweaked it up gently with a shortened spanner approx one sixteenth of a turn and it cured our coolant loss.

If its leaking from the water pump its usually possible the tell tale sign of white crusty deposits around it. Likewise check your radiator for damage and where the end tanks are attached and near the in/out hoses.
