Hatch taillights

Featured Replies

Wondering if a hatch owner could do me a massive favour please and check the black plastic bit that goes between the taillights and the inside of the boot area.

Took mine out a few months ago and not sure if I've put it back the cover correctly. It looks like water can run down the hatch boot edges and underneath the black plastic bit shown in the image. There's also a gap towards the left too.

Wondering if this is right or whether I've done it wrong. Don't want rain water to run into the taillights or into somewhere where it shouldn't.

Many thanks!

I have a Combi and can't help with that part. It looks badly fitted. But how about checking the fit of same part on the other side of your car?  If the fit of both is wrong maybe you transposed the parts?

I took them off and refitted separately so pretty sure they are correct for the side, but as I took both off I can't check the other to see if one is wrong.

So, are you saying both sides look like that i.e. badly fitting? If so , you need to wait for someone with a hatch.

Happy New Year 2018.

Yeah basically that, happy new year and thanks for your input! :)

Another angle showing how this is currently. It lines up at the bottom but there is a dirty bit on inside right edge of the taillamp, so it makes me wonder if it's wrong.

If anyone could check and if possible take a picture of the same bit on theirs that would be fantastic and really appreciated!

Yes, its like that on mine, poor fitting. Or maybe its intentional, so all the leaves and other garbage can get in and out?

As requested:--

Looking at the shape you can't fit them to the other side or upside down.  In your first photo the top of yours is out at the top, mine seem to be Tucked into a groove on the light cluster. Is that a little lug on the top which fits into a slot in the body work. You might not have the light clusters in quite right therefor not allowing the plastic part to fit properly.

Always happy to help.  Have a look at the side where the plastic part is touching the rubber strip to the right, that might be stopping it fitting correctly

Nice shoes by by the way    :giggle:

Here's mine. A better fit than yours or Auric's but still not a good fit at the top.

Thanks, looks like they might have changed the cover so it goes higher up to stop the gap shown in my pic. In fact if you look the extra plastic is a slightly different colour.

Top man! Oh yeah I meant to crop those out.... They are the scruffiest oldest pair of trainers I have that are reserved for the finest of jobs. They are mostly covered in fence and house paint! :blush

Either way it looks like you haven't refitted it correctly as the cover's edge should sit inside the lens. Why did you remove it?

It’s only a cosmetic finisher in a wet area of the vehicle (Anywhere outside of the door seals). Don’t worry about water getting under it, it’s not a seal and won’t stop moisture ingress in behind it.

Had to take it out so I could remove the unit for bulb replacement.

Thanks for that, that was the main concern - water and electrics mixing generally isn't ideal!

The posts and pics from others though have confirmed is that I haven't put them back quite correctly; the plastic appears it should go inside the edge of the tail lamp which I haven't done and there's a bit of dirt gathering in that.

Yeah I've seen a few weather warnings for Storm Eleanor. The wind and rain is quite bad and can be heard in the house. It hasn't really stopped raining since I was finishing the car cleaning yesterday lunchtime!

Not too worried about it as an urgent one, they've been like that for a couple of months. Was just one of those things I should probably sort sooner rather than later. Will update the thread once I've tackled it! Cheers :)
