Knocking noise when stationary.

Featured Replies

Hello.

Wondering if any of you have/ have had the same issue.

Engine on , sat stationary in park car at idle no heat /ac / fans etc.

Quite a loud knock or rattle sound from the engine bay or behind the dash, can almost feel it if I put the hand down on the passenger footwell bulkhead.

I've had my head in the engine bay, can see nothing making contact with the bulkhead or any loose components .

Hard to explain but it sounds like a hollow tap, as if someone was tapping the air box for example.

It's not coming from the engine block itself but it's hard to pinpoint a location.

Cheers in advance .

Fabia vrs hatchback 2012 btw.

Sounds a little like a noise I had on 1.4 diesel when turbo packed up. Replaced under warranty. Not sure if you are turbo or supercharger.

Maybe worth getting on the ramp.

Front Downpipe bracket breaks, and dealerships quote ridiculous price.

Rusted clamp at back of the Resonator box gives up the ghost at 5 years sometimes.  (As picture, £4 clamp)

Exhaust clunks.

Generally many things get loose, you need to look see, have someone look as you rev it a bit.

Ah , brilliant stuff, that sounds highly likely from the sound it's creating. If I put my foot on the throttle a tad, even just 100 rpm above idle  the noise subsides. So maybe the vibration at idle causes this to rattle about a bit. Accessible on jack's you think?

Cheers for the replies guys.

Jack up safely at the front and from passenger side door sill sort of place look across to the exhaust for the clamp.

As to the front down pipe you need under really and a look up with a light to see it.

Some might just get that welded if broken rather than a replacement pipe.

Not saying that is the issue, but worth the checking.

Top man. I'll be sure to get it looked at a soon as i can.

Cheers for your help.

Take care.

Had a similar problem and found it was the high-pressure petrol fuel lines vibrating on tick over, goes as soon as the throttle is touched. Some foam padding between the pipe and the bodywork soon sorted it out.

Brilliant. Thanks for your input. Maybe I'll have a check of that first , See if it solves the issue .

Did you find the reason on the knocking noise in the end?
