Can my Skoda dealership disable the engine sound generator@

Featured Replies

Hey, my new vrs arrives next week and I've asked for the sound generator to be disabled. Few reasons 1) seems to cause problems with the speakers 2) sounds crap

I've just had a phone call regarding the delivery and the Salesmen was insistent that he was told it couldn't be done (disabled).

He suggested I use vrs individual mode.

Is he telling me porkies? Can the dealership disable the sound generator via their own software.

Any help appreciated,

Yes I believe so, however I did it myself via VCDS.

Ty sir.

I'd rather they did it for free.

How much is the vcds you used? Where was it purchased?

Top man Ty.

Or a local owner of VCDS will usually do what mods you want for a little beer money. Check the VCDS sticky thread.

Not aware of any issues it causes with the speakers. The sound generator is a completely separate module and isn't linked to the speakers in any way.

I've read a few things and when I test drove the display vrs it had terrible speaker noise or vibration when pressing the throttle.

I'm miles away from the dealers so I'd rather not take the chance.

Thanks for the advice.

It creates a vibration but it's the generator itself that vibrates and it's installed in the bit between the windscreen and the bonnet.

It's personal preference and others have turned it off. I turned mine down - it was too much at 100% and the vibration at full throttle sounded c*** but the TSI is quiet so it's good to have a bit of noise, even if it's fake. At 35% it's much better.

As others have said, easily done with VCDS or OBDEleven, so don't worry if your dealer won't sort it :)

It can be unplugged easy enough - no need for VCDS even.

Dealer could do it if they knew their vRS from their elbow, most don't.

Can do and will do are worlds apart in dealer language.

Very helpful.

I got the impression the dealership didn't have a clue.

I've seen a video on YouTube trading unplugging a cable. Is that's all that required? will it cause trouble elsewhere?

Nothing more required and won't cause any issues as far as I know.

You may want to tape up the connections to keep them dry and ensure the loose connector doesn't rattle.

Thank you.

After seeing what can be done with the software I've purchased obd11.

Kill a few birds and not have to get dirty.

Thanks for the advice
