Storing motorcycle outside in oxford motorcycle cover

Featured Replies

Hi,

My plans are in place to buy a motorcycle in March 2018.

As SWIMBO will not allowed to move the garden equipment outside it looks like I will have to store it outside in something like this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OXFORD-AQUATEX-MOTORCYCLE-BIKE-COVER-XL/222754125596?hash=item33dd2e371c:g:DjIAAOSwKfVXIc7X

Does anyone have experience storing their bike outside please?

I should add that I will be using ACS50 to protect against rust etc. and understand will need a battery charger.

As far as the choice of motorcycle it looks like MT-03 is most preferable but waiting to look at a Husqvarna Svart/Pilen 401 when released or a SWM Gran Milano as left field choices

Best wishes,

John.

Not really much experience with storing bikes outside...

I know you can get solar powered battery optimisers, which might be worth a look?

I'd visit the Pragmasis website for a decent chain and ground anchor. I've ordered from them recently and the customer service is brill, the product is even better.

Have you test ridden the MT03?

Final note... the garden equipment should defo go in the garden... bikes aren't just for christmas... :D

Echo what Fab said about chains and ground anchor.

Covers can create a condensation under them so make sure it has a proper covering of ACF50 including the electrics and connectors.

If you’re not going to use the bike over longer periods then just remove the battery.

Thanks for your replies!

Solar powered optimiser looks very cool and very practical ta.

Not test ridden yet, weather has been stopping me - sat on an mt03 quite a few times though.

Going to test ride all the bikes mentioned plus the z300.

Good comment regarding condensation, might put a thick old cotton bed spread under the oxford.

Best wishes,

John

soon make the mrs think twice about the garden stuff.

Hehe, I might just get the garden shed and the motorcycle in that and if I am lucky all of the lawn - just think no more mowing the lawn!!

I used to stash my old ZXR400 outside. I used two covers. An Oxford dust cover and a waterproof cover over that.

Used to WD40 exposed metal and the bike had a big chain, ground anchor and disk bolt. It was in my parents garden rather than on the street.

I also turned the bike over every couple of weeks for 15min or went for a short run if it was dry. TBh it lasted fine no issues doing that.

My bike is only a Hondaa CG but spends it's life outside under an Oxford cover and isn't massively worse for wear

Seems the worst thing is not using it, as leaving it sat for a few weeks, I came back to lots of new rust etc despite ACF50. but it should brush off once it gets a bit warmer.

nothin wrong with a CG.

Proper bike. i did loads of miles on one of those... was sort of sad to see it go.

The CG is a brilliant bike. I used one for work for many years. Covered it in wax oil amd sold it many years later for more money than I paid for it. Good ones are catching big money now. Oil change evert 1000 miles and they go forever.

Do you want another one? I can't stand mine :D

I own it for motivational reasons.... Every time I ride it I feel inspired to do my test and get rid of the thing!

Too right.

I got 150 quid more for mine than i paid for it.

Used to change the oil every 1k miles too. Was nice n easy n proper cheap motoring.
