How to check if the haldex 4x4 system is working?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I'm curious if anyone knows how I can go about checking that my Haldex 4x4 system is functioning.

I purchased my car just over a month ago and I haven't had a chance to play in snow yet. Octavia MK2 2.0 TDI 1Z BMM with 4x4.

I did an oil change on 4 jack stands a few weeks ago and my uncle told me to put the car in first gear to see if the rear wheels spin. They didn't, only the front.

Now from what I understand, the rear wheels should engage if the front wheels are moving and the car isn't moving. So technically shouldn't the rear wheels have been rotating?

The last Haldex oil change was about 55,000 km ago, along with the filter. It's been just over 3 years since that oil change though, and from what I've read, I've surpassed the time deadline for changing the oil.

I will gladly provide more info if needed to answer the question at hand, also if this thread already exists please forgive my unsuccessful search through the forum for it, and please direct me to it.

Thanks!

Drive into a muddy field and see if you can get out.  ????

But seriously, the pumps can fail...
