Traffic Jam Assist

Featured Replies

I purchased Karoq and hoping someone can answer below as your model must be similar to my one.

I was hoping someone can answer and confirm what this feature does? I am getting poor information from dealer.

I understand that it will steer car as well as slow down, brake and accelerate? How is it different from ACC? It works in slower Traffic? it steers?

In Karoq pricing document the only time this feature mentioned is in Assistance pack 1.

Manual says it works if you have ACC, lane assist and DSG, I have all 3 and suspect it unlocks this option ?

ACC and Lane assist work together for the traffic jam assist.

The ACC controls your speed in the traffic, while the Lane assist basically just keeps you in the same lane (unless you override it). I don't know why the lane assist is needed for the traffic jam assist to work, but I guess it's to do with stopping accidental lane changes with lots of traffic so reducing the chance of an accident.

I used ACC on a Golf and it does not steer, it keeps the distance from the car in front by varying the speed. I still had to steer. The linked video WiggosSideburns posted above says that traffic jam assist also directs the car on curved roads (i.e. it steers whereas ACC on its own does not).

so basically it looks like the functions are:

ACC is to accelerate reduce and stop the car 0mph to legal limit :)

Lane assist is to keep the car in lane

Traffic Jam is to provide steering

?

Has anyone had to pay for the traffic assist ?

Yes - you don't get it unless you get the Assistance Pack. You get LA as standard on the Edition (at least on the Kodiaq, no idea about the Karoq), and you can then either get ACC as an option, or the Assistance Pack which includes ACC, TJA, and other stuff. But you have to have DSG to get the Assistance Pack and, therefore, TJA.

yes that was dealer says too, annoying.

also been told it is a factory fit option only and you cannot activate it from the dealer.

i was hoping i can pay at least a fee and Its probably the case of activating in-car license/software

100% correct - ignore all the other noise from people who don't have or understand what TJA is.

ACC by itself will provide Stop/Go functionality in traffic.

Correct, the only way to get TJA is by purchasing the Assistance Pack on a DSG vehicle. If you spec ACC and LA as separate items you will not get TJA. On the Kodiaq it was a £30 difference between adding ACC to an Edition (with LA as standard) or adding the Assistance Pack which gave you ACC and TJA.

Dealers cannot enable it, additional 'code' needs loading to a module, as well as 'coding' changes to make it work. The dealer can only the 'code' from the factory if TJA is listed as a build option code against your chassis number.

LA is required because you have misunderstood, like many, what TJA is.

All TJA does is keep LA enabled below 65km/h under certain conditions - DSG, ACC enabled, Adaptive Lane Guidance enabled.

If you do not have TJA or turn off Adaptive Lane Guidance, then LA turns off below 65km/h.

Thank you for reinforcing my understanding. I think I am happy with ACC if it does just that.

Previously I had Golf and it was only able to activate ACC above 30mph and then 3 years later, now, a sales man told me that now it can work from 0mph and that's why I purchased it for Karoq. I panicked thinking that maybe sales guy wasnt correct and I need TJA to do 0-30mph and ACC 30mph >

ACC will work from 0 on a DSG vehicle, but the lowest speed you can set on it is 20mph if that makes sense.
