MK1 RS tdi

Featured Replies

Afternoon.

A few few pics of my latest daily.  Based on a 1999 1.9 tdi GLX. No sunroof and no rear wiper as standard - which I'm a huge fan of. Only put it on the road at the end of November, so it's not had a wash yet!

First pic is of how it looked when I bought it.

That looks quite convincing as a replica.  Did the silver of the bumpers & spoiler match up with the rest of the car okay?  Also, have you pinched a set of brakes from one of the Porsches yet?

Hello.

Yes, the the colour match was spot on. Both bumpers ideally could've done with painting really, but due to time, and the fact that I was just about to move business premises, meant that I just needed to get it on the road as soon as was possible.

The tdi was a very clean 2 owner 96k with full history. The donor car was an 02 plate 120k RS. We've already got a black 2003 RS, and I also had one brand new  as a company car back in 2002, so I know what's what, and what was needed to get the RS look - but with 65 mpg!

As I said in the first post, the tdi has no sunroof or rear wiper, so l personally think it makes for a cleaner look.

As as well as the bumpers and boot spoiler, the bonnet, grill, front & rear lights, front shocks & springs, rear springs, and wheels were also changed, and as the RS rear bumper has the square cut out for the pipe - we also had the tailpipe off the RS too! See pic.

Brakes......... that's (maybe) another project for another time - when I've got nothing to do! They're currently in standard form and they pull the car up ace. Had things have been made simpler I'd have had the front calipers off the donor car, but without going into too much detail it's not a straight forward bolt on job to stick them onto the none PD version of the tdi. The rears are another complication as well, as the tdi has drums on the back... handbrake's mint though!
