I am looking to buy a Fabia mk2 Monte Carlo with the 1.2 tsi engine.

Can anyone tell me if this has a belt or chain. Searching the net gives differing opinions.

A timing chain. 

Ones 2012 on should not have the timing chain tensioner issues that the 2010/11 might have had, 

but should have then had upgraded.

 

Do a Briskoda search on 1.2 TSI Timing Chain rattle, or a google.

Am I correct in thinking that there are two power outputs on the 1.2 Monte engine,if so how do you tell which one it is without driving back to back?

You find out from the seller before driving or even going to see them.    You could drive one and it has been re-mapped.

standard ,  86 ps  or 105 ps, 

 Info from the V5, the VIN sticker in the Spare Tyre Well. 

Put the reg number in the DVLA vehicle check site, see what the VED is what the Co2 g/km is 121 for 86 ps  & 124 g / km 105ps.

 

Someone here that knows the cars might tell you about what is what.
