Fabia Mk2 glove box light switch

Featured Replies

Hello all,

The light in the glove box was staying on all the time so I disconnected it. I presumed it was something to do with the switch not getting enough travel to turn off and it would appear to be the case as the switch appeared to have "unclipped" itself (top clip). I had a firk around with a screwdriver trying to clip it back in again but I only succeeded in detaching it altogether.

To get at it, I removed the "upper glove box" and went in from above. However, I now need better access. I couldn't see a way of getting in from behind the stereo nor did I find any vids on how to do this.

Can anyone assist?

Thanks.

No access from stereo.

Are you sure it stayed on? Its been debated here before and some say theirs goes off after a few mins, others just on closing the lid, as mine does! I swapped both my glovebox and boot lights for nice, brighter LED ones I purchased. They are better in such a big way!

The original glovebox one was being a pig... I thought the bulb had blown but it was ok but they can be difficult to fit back in the unit as the connection is a very small contact area and also, they can be prone to blowing the fuse anyway, hence my swap to LED. I like the boot one so much I am thinking of ordering another set (They come in pairs) To add another to the right hand side. This will mean cutting out the hole and finding an access point to wire from the left one to the right hand side. Needless to say, I will test the theory before cutting the hole!

You've just reminded me that i'd taken out the bulb due to it staying on & i had'nt got round to sorting it yet myself, so i'll be keen to see how you get on ;)

What a crock the interior plastics are. I've spent an hour umclipping bits from the dashboard around the door air vent etc and those around the air bag switch and I can see no way to remove plastics to get at this switch.

I had expected Skoda cars to be practical and easy to work on but this design has left me totally baffled and disappointed.

If I dare to start levering clips I can imagine I'm not going to get much further and just end up with a load of misfitting plastics when they strain or break...and subsequent rattles.

I think the light will stay disconnected. I simply cannot be arsed to deal with this woeful creation.

The actual dash is a one piece unit so you have to have the whole lot out to say, change the blower motor. Does the part you want to access have a seam? Perhaps you could melt the glue, disassemble it and re-glue again. Just a thought!
