Thinking of getting a Karoq

Featured Replies

I currently have a superb estate. It's been a great car. Pleasure to drive. I needed such a large car because my work entailed carrying very long items around.

I retired three years ago and no longer need such a big vehicle. At 70 I sometimes have a little difficulty fitting into small spaces but the parking sensors are a great help. Also being short of leg and fat of gut, the drivers seat memory settings are pretty usefull.

Recentlly when I had a little Fiesta as a courtesy car following a smashed window and theft I was quite taken with it and considered getting one. Once I looked into the finances I realised it was a no go. A two year old Fiesta was 10k and they would only give me 6k for mine. So I would end up with a worse car and be 4K lighter. Also I know the first time I had to shift something bulky or do on a long trip I'd regret it.

so I stayed as I was. BTw I only do about 5k miles pa and tend to keep my cars until forced to replace them.

I have Seen the Karoq and am quite taken with it.

what do people who have bought one think of them.

thanks for reading.

some superb owners are moaning that Karoq is less comfortable and refined car but that should be understood as both aimed at different types of customer base

i can only advise is you test drive it, depending on the trim you choose, 19" wheels might not be your preference

Thanks for the response.

what is the significance of the wheel size

Hi Richard, we share some similarities. I'm 68 and although not short in leg, I am fat of gut. I've driven Yeti's for the past 5 years and have found them very easy to get in and out of. My mum is 92 and she also finds it easy to get into the Yeti. Until a fortnight ago, my better half had an Octavia which was a very nice car, but I did struggle to get in and out. Needed the seat right back and the steering column right up. We decided to trade the Octavia for a Karoq which I love. |We had the Edition, so got the Electric Seat with memory, so when I drive (as long as I open it with my key) the seat sets  and I have no trouble getting in or out. As Vadimo says, it is wise to test drive it. We have the 19" wheels and haven't noticed any ride issues.

A larger the wheel has less rubber and air to cushion the ride. Dynamic Chassis Control can help ( coming to the Karoq) but at a cost!

I'm long of leg with ample frame and found the Karoq seats great. I have slight concerns over the boot size (especially with spare wheel options) but it's much bigger than in the Yeti. I thought it was slightly less refined compared to the Superb but not by much. I thought the ride was fantastic though - in my view ahead of the Superb II (I drove the Karoq, 1.5tsi SE L I think, down a rather bumpy road which is part of my commute).

I do have an eye on the price though - I priced up an SE technology and with a couple of extras (paint, heated screen/nozzles/seats, spare wheel etc)  the price went to about £26k . Considering I could buy a new Audi A4 for just over £21k (Drivethedeal) I'm slightly concerned with the price.

I'm not saying I'm not buying a Karoq as I do rather like it but I might wait for a while when discounts "may" be availabe

Do you mean discounts from dealerships or from brokers?

I'm seeing discounts from brokers of £1800 off a 1.6 TDi SE Technology.

£21086 instead of £22900.

And £2779 off a 2.0 TDi 1st Edition 4x4 DSG.

£28910 instead of £31690.

Either, but I think those discounts will increase when the Karoq is no longer a "new" model.

The same has happened to the Superb in time, some great discounts available now on the mkIII.

I love mine, 2 weeks into ownership. Great to drive, very comfortable and quiet.

Only issues I have are the lack of rain gutters on the roof, which means that water pours off the roof onto the seats when you open the doors, and the directional ability of the (Amundsen) sat nav - the routes it comes up with are neither the shortest nor the fastest!

I thought the sat nav in my previous car (Qashqai) was bad, but this is definitely worse.

That's an interesting observation and seems like a very weak point in the design.  Something to check when I take a test drive - but I might struggle to get a wet day - not!

Was your test drive car fitted with a sunroof bone_tone?

This is the experience on my own car - I ordered in October, before test drives were available.

The other minor niggles I have found are that the speedo is marked in 20mph increments, so you have to guess where 30, 50 and 70 are, and that there is no light on the dashboard to tell you when the headlights are on (useful in changeable/murky daytime conditions) - that light is on the light switch, which is low down and obscured by my right hand.

Sorry bone_tone, meant to ask if your car (not as I said, the test drive car) has a sunroof.  Just wondering if the integration of the sunroof makes any difference to the way water hangs/runs off the roof.

I though the Karoq had a large MPH display available in the maxidot display.

It has, but I don't necessarily want it set to that all the time - particularly if the sat nav is being used

Thanks for all the replies guys. Getting some good info.

spare wheel. ... is a real one fitted. I think these blow up kits are ridiculous.

Do the rear seats fold flat or even can they be removed.

does the drivers seat have memory settings.

Spare wheel - blow up kit standard, option of spacesaver or steel wheel spare which raises boot floor to varying degrees and reduces available space

Modesl SE-L and above has varioflex rear seats that can be removed. They fold but I wouldn't call it flat

[EDIT] Don't tink spacesave spare raises floor on the 2wd but it does on the 4wd which has a smaller wheel well

Not sure if it is on Karoq, but on my year old Yeti you can leave headlights turned on in the winter and they switch off with ignition.  Much easier than turning off manually.    I need to check side light setting (but that may stay on if parked)

Yes, they turn off with the ignition, but I'm more concerned with knowing they're on when the weather is poor. They come on automatically when the wipers are on, but not always otherwise - I noticed the other day that they kept switching on and off as the light levels changed, so resorted to switching them to the manual setting instead of auto.

If you have your SatNav on, it will change from day to night setting when the lights switch on automatically even in the day time. (assuming you have it set in the menu)

Doesn't on mine, even though I have the setting for day/night on auto. With the lights on auto, the screen stays on daylight setting, however if you put the headlights on manually then the screen changes to night setting!

Looking at a 1.5TSI DSG, what are people's real world mags please?
