Variable boot floor for hatchback?

Featured Replies

From what I can see, it doesn't look like Skoda do the variable height boot floor for the hatchback.  So, I'm just wondering about making one myself out of MDF/plywood.  I guess someone on here might have already done this - if so, do you have any tips or a thread on it?  (I've spotted the thread on making one for the estate, and I guess it's not that different - but I am thinking of making mine from scratch, as I guess the ones in the current and Mk2 estates are different lengths(?)

Welcome to the forum! :)

Not sure if its possible but dont see why not on the hatchback.

This post might be useful.

Sashagrace has retrofitted the VBF to her estate with lots of photos & useful info here.

It seems its not plug&play but with some minor modifications its possible.

Thanks for the publicity there ;) I’ve retrofitted the VBF from a breaker Elegance onto my vRS but I just took everything from one car and put it in mine. If I were in your position I’d try and find an Estate (local dealer will have one in the showroom if you can’t find one elsewhere) and measure everything, I’ll try and measure mine if I get chance, and if the floor is the same size, one way to do it would be to follow the method used by @Jaco2k which is to get a floor and use some wooden supports to keep it in place. There may be some gaps etc but it’d be in OEM carpet and pretty much ready to fit so the end result will be good. For reference the eBay breaker I got my floor from charged £50 for the VBF, and I messaged to get a quote on everything else I needed (which since you ask was £100 but some carpet trim was damaged so they gave me £10 discount). I can’t see the hatch and estate having vastly different sized floors.

Good luck with it!!

Actually, the OP arrived to this forum via my video :)

When the weather improves I'm going to make a raised floor out of ply, to level out the boot so I can sleep in the back, (estate) like I could in my old mondeo estate, handy when arriving at a campsite late at night,,In the rain! Prob have a Piano hinge across the centre to make a storage space, and stick a bit of carpet on top, also, with my sunroof ideal for star gazing.

Once iv made it I'll post a pic
