Show me your square/fat rectangle rear number plates

Featured Replies

As the title says

Got a spare few quid in my PayPal account so looking at getting a square-ish plate as a few people have them on their estates and they look cool!

Upload a pic and the dimension please, so I can get a sense of size and to check it'll cover my dealer drilled holes :crying:

How do the number plate lights look with the square plate?

Probably just as bright with a rectangular plate. Looking at location of bulbs in relation to reg plate there does seem to be decent coverage.

I ordered one of eBay the other day for £9, so I'll check it out when I receive and fit it.

Worse case I'll be getting some brighter/LED bulbs so plod don't pull me over.

Thanks courty..

Lights look fine. I changed mine on my hatch after a couple of months of ownership. Far nicer looking just a load of sticky mess to clear off where the old plate was.

I've got two holes where my dealer has drilled 28cm apart, should be covered with the plate hopefully otherwise the standard one is going back on!

In hindsight, I wish I would've told them to stick them on, was going to do the same for the front in terms of a smaller plate but the bellends drilled either end of the plate so it'd look stupid. CBA filling and painting over it either as I'm more Morph than Neil Buchanan when it comes to the arts!

Mine had the holes underneath in the body  and it covers them fine.

I changed my rear plate to a square shape as when I was looking at Ant-Vrs thread the square plate really sets the rear off nicely & personally I think it looks more phat, I got mine from here:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SQUARE-TRAILER-PLATE-4-x-4-NUMBER-PLATE-11-x-8-279mm-x-203mm/222228521021?hash=item33bdda203d:g:Hj8AAOSwU-pXvcIR

11x8 100% legal plates from plate services gb, the only thing with the 11x8 is it was just a little bit short at either end (not even mm) to cover the existing holes so I got some clear film like paint protection film, covered the holes with that so no water would get in & then used some double sided tape to stick on the rear plate & it's still on today with no issues, I did buy a jap import plate afterwards 13x7 but I didn't like it & I have not tried a US import plate but it looks good on Ant-Vrs vehicle.

Looks smart.

I went for the US one, to ensure coverage of them pesky holes!

I think the US one 12x6 does actually look a lot better than the 11x8 to be honest, especially the width & also the way it sits above the line above the vrs badge, Ant-Vrs plate above sits above the boot line, where my 11x8 sits a tad below the boot line.

Post some pics up courty once you fitted the rear plate, on a side not I was thinking to change mine again but to gel plates from full-house-customs, kinda still in 2 minds about it, only because I can't be arsed to have any bother from the boys in blue as I don't know if gel plates are legal etc.

Will do, just waiting for it

to arrive and the weather to do-one. Might be brave and remove the silver make and model badges too!

I think they would be legal

so long as they use the correct font and spacing.

Each to their own but I have the same as ant vrs and in my opinion looks far better. The larger plate just looks odd.

I like the Europe plates, but would remove front plate from the bumper for esthetics. Like in some US states.

Have to agree, just my view but the 12x8 one doesn't look right - it's too big for the space and looks awkward.

Although I personally wouldn't have either, I don't get the appeal unless you're going for the minicab look :wondering: but everyone has their own taste, I enjoy seeing all the different mods people make :)

My OCD will be ok too as it'll be level with the crease across the boot.

^this, unfortunately we have to have them - I'd have a clear front too as it's cleaner.

That's the look exactly!

If it looks crap then the original one is getting put back on.

Pleased with the look, covered the holes with ease. For now the skoda and Octavia wording is staying put as I'm undecided whether to debadge or not.

Octy-octopus finally made an appearance too!

I today also changed my rear number plate from the 11x8 to a Jap 13x7 which definitely fits & looks much better than my previous plate, was happy with the existing plate but I think the bit where it don’t sit level with the boot line was actually bugging me.

Also tinted my rear lights with film.

Lights look awesome. Any effect on output or is it negligible?

@courty cheers bud B) to be honest there is very minimal effect on the light output, I have upgraded the rear indicator & reverse bulbs from AliExpress some time ago, which are Cree & LED bulbs so there brighter anyway.

I find with the rear lenses tinted it just takes away all that bright redness of the lenses & because I have the rear black diffuser, boot protection, badges all in black, I thought to try out the lenses tinted to blend it all in.

The picture actually don’t do it justice to be fair, it looks far better in person.
