Hi folks, 

 

Just a quick one. I bought a 2010 octavia 2.0 tdi cr vrs dsg last Friday. I didn't realise about the dsg service needed at 40000miles. The car is now on 72000. Gear box is still smooth. But nothing in the service book about the oil change.

 

Anyone got any advice?

I got mine done on 52k Miles. My gearbox felt fine, just got it done for my own reassurance.

I got it from a skoda dealership. Would it be worth going back to them do u think? 

If you wait until the gearbox isn’t smooth, it will be too late. I would strongly recommend an oil and filter change for the DSG ASAP.

I'm thinking that. But surely the dealership I bought it from should be liable as its a skoda service interval and I got it from a skoda dealership. 

If they sold it as Full Service & Maintenance History to Manufacturers Spec / Schedule then yes they are liable if it was not Serviced as Schedule and the DSG Oil change at 40,000 miles.

But they never said that did they.   & it is not a Skoda Approved Used car is it?

No its not an approved used but surely it shouldn't be advertised as fsh as its not had/got a fsh.

You can buy a Skoda Service plan and have a FULL MAIN DEALER SERVICE HISTORY, 

and yet the Haldex not Serviced every 3 years, the Brake Fluid changed at 3 years or the DSG Oil / Filter changed at 40,000 miles.

 

See posts in the YETI section, there one owners had full Main Dealer Servicing as per schedule and yet when the DSG gave up at 62,000 miles discovers the DSG was not given an Oil change at 40,000 miles.

Many are like this as a Dealership Service Desk does not tell the Owner or Registered Keeper.

As I understand it, it is mostly to stop contamination from the submerged clutch packs as they wear.  If it is still smooth, no issues, maybe no big deal.  Definitely needs changing though... Not great description if that has not been attended to.  Seems to be a fairly frequent occurrence though, the dealer response on servicing is often, "we only do what you tell us to do....!!"  Pretty ridiculous when people go to main dealers for all the expertise, reassurance and half a clue!

I just find it strange when it's printed in the service book on the same pages as every other service item.

The water pump and belt was done at last service in December by the dealer so obviously went over the car. 

Due again in 8,000 miles anyway if it was done already, which it might have been.

 

Who was the Servicing Dealership, John Clark?

 

Hopefully less than £179 to have it done 200 meters from home.

Not £85 an hour plus VAT rates.

I had the same worries when I purchased my 1.6TDi octy DSG and it transpires that my car has a DRY clutch and is sealed for life and so dealers (3 off) all said there is no oil replacement on this gearbox/ clutch. Might be worth checking. For information I am told that official dealers can now replace the clutch pack on the DSG gearboxes but have no idea on how much that would be. 

Quick update. 

 

Just spoken to the dealership and they r going to check if the oil has been done. If not it will get done.

 No your DQ200 does not require an Oil Change because there is no Service Schedule to change the sealed for life oil.

 

But in 2012 there was a World Wide Recall to have the Factory Filled Synthetic Oil changed to Mineral & a Software Update.

In other world regions there was a Warranty Extension, & in some regions the MCU was replaced.

In Europe / UK it was just a Service Campaign on the DQ200 2009-2013 that had Synthetic Oil.  '34F7'. 

So was yours part of this, needed doing or was done?

Out of interest do you know why the oil had to be changed from fully synthetic? I know fully synthetic oil is more hygroscopic that mineral oil, but if the gearbox is “sealed for life” how can moisture get in? Or is there some sort of breather?

Yes even sealed units need breathers.

It was Sulphur in the Synthetic oil & internal corrosion.

Ok, thanks.

Seems like the oil change hasn't been done.  but it will be done by them and they will cover the cost. So in a way it's good as I then won't have to do it for another 40,000 miles.
