Skoda radio upgrade

Featured Replies

Hello,

1st post on the site, looking to upgrade the swing radio in my Rapid, wanting, aux, bluetooth and USB. Also want it to be a official skoda stereo, not a fan of aftermarket units as they don't match the instrument panel (OCD kicks in). I think the RCN210 unit would work but wanting to double check and see what else is out there.

Cheers,

Jamie

RNS315 is a factory fit on the 2014 (amundsen+). RNS510 (columbus) can be fitted and coded in and has higher spec & bigger screen. Both can have NAV, PHONE, BT, DAB (some are version dependent).  Ask the expert @Rustynuts on here.  I liked the 315 I had, but was frustrated that I could not have speed cameras on it, whereas the 510 does fairly easily.

There's not much can match the RCN210 sort of thing for price and features, but it's sometimes an issue getting it to work correctly. Plug & play it certainly isn't from what I can gather. Also, it's a VW unit so will have red button backlights etc. If budget is important then that could well be the way to go and work on making it function correctly. If you want plug & play then as said an Amundsen + with Bluetooth would get somewhere close, but no usb.

Will have a look at the RNS315 (amundsen+) & RNS510 (columbus). The RCN210 I saw said it had green blacklight for the buttons, they are going dirt cheap on ebay.

If it has green back lighting then that's okay. I've no experience of them personally, just reading posts from other people who have installed them.

Am I right in thinking you can out any head unit into any Skoda? I have a 14 plate rapid with a Swing radio (car has Bluetooth and parking sensors) so looking to upgrade buy keep all functionality of the car? Seen a few Columbus models on eBay from breakers yards for cheap so considering those as a budget upgrade.

When I spoke to Skoda about it, I was told the only option I have is a £1200 Kenwood system, so eager to know if this is BS or not.

As above @Rustynuts is the Columbus expert on here. He has a specific thread in the ICE section for you.

My bad. @Rustynuts thread is in Entrepreneur Zone.
