Renault Megane RS 280 2018 review

Mégane RS has a chassis of remarkable deftness and balance that gives the hot hatch unmistakable class-leading potential

Few performance cars have been lavished with a more consistent flow of praise by hot hatchback aficionados than the Renault Mégane RS. This car has bossed the fast front-drive niche for most of its life, having appeared with that memorable ‘bustle-back’ styling in 2004 and promptly set new class benchmarks for driver involvement and handling poise.  But it’ll take something to reclaim that familiar old perch now, with the Honda Civic Type R having become a brilliant driver’s car in its own right and the Volkswagen Golf GTI, incoming Seat Leon Cupra R and four-wheel-drive Ford Focus RS suddenly making competition in the segment seem little less fierce than what Renault’s been coming up against in Formula 1 of late.

Gather they are not due in the country until April for buying.  My local RenaultSport dealership are rubbish at giving test rides (whereas my mate a couple doors down works for Honda and we went out in the previous Civic Type R which was so hard suspension wise, and seemed to have poor traction control but he is going to take me out in the new one soon so going to be a a choice between those two though the Clio RS is still a strong contender with lots of second hand ones and still quite a lot of fun and an infinite number of production racing bits to source to individualise.

With the car markets so bad at the moment it is a buyer's market !

lol-lol,  you are just the man to remind the Dealer Principal why they have Demonstrators and the benefits  they get having them,

which is not a wee perk for them to run up to 3,000 miles rather than potential customers.

God these internal manual (Books of Guidance as they use to be called), as they are broken in to such small chunks to be almost unreadable (intentional).

Complying with the Freedom of Information Act.  There was loads that was withheld but it all seems to be available, if you are patient to cut and paste.

Probably go through Renault Retail who now sell 1 in 4 new Renault cars direct.....   https://www.renaultretail.co.uk/new-renault-cars/renaultsport/clio/

Another good review...    https://www.motoring.com.au/renault-megane-2018-rs-280-111002/

Cup version, out in a years time, is expected to have the 300 hp version of the engine, stiffer chassis.

No doubt the goal will be to do much better than the 7'54 Ring time of the Mk2 Megane and get close or better the Honda Civic Type R time.

Another good honest test it sounds to me.....
