Trying to find out if my Fabia needs a particular update (turbo shim)

Featured Replies

Hi, new here. My wife has a March 2012 Fabia 1.2 TSi, and recently the EPC warning light has started coming on, putting the car in limp-home mode.

I have already ascertained that the fault code is P334B, and after some research it seems possible that this was a known issue fixed by installing a spacer shim on the wastegate actuator (service action 24W6).

I have checked and can see that my wife's car does NOT have the shim.

HOWEVER... all the stuff I've found says that this problem applies to pre-2012 cars. It seems possible that my wife's car might have been built in late 2011, so it seems on the cusp of whether it needs this update. Is there any definitive way of telling if her car needs the shim? The engine code is CBZB, and the type description is "5454J4 FABIA COM TSI ELE". I can post the VIN if that would help.

I also found a VW TSB (2027485/7) that lists turbo part numbers which must NOT have the shim fitted, but I can't see a part number anywhere on the turbo. Presumably it's hidden underneath the shielding cover (which I don't feel happy about trying to remove).

Thanks.

PS. I have spoken to the local Skoda dealer and they were about as helpful as the proverbial chocolate teapot.

Please ignore this thread. I initially posted in a thread about a similar problem over in the Yeti owners forum, and people there suggested I posted in the Fabia 2 forum.

Since then it looks like someone (a moderator, I guess) has moved the relevant parts of the thread in the Yeti forum to here, and I now have an answer. Sorry for any confusion caused!
