Bentley build quality

Featured Replies

I was watching a program on the new Bentley Bentayga. They were going on about build quality and how they were all perfectionists. Every car was examined minutely to make sure it was perfect.

Then they cut to a car that was being dusted off on a showroom.

Would you be happy with the fit of those rear lights?

Autocorrect, again!!!

Even if it was the price of a superb I wouldn't be happy.

But people who buy Bentleys couldn't care less as long it fits with their image.

All SUVs look the same to me. Apart from those crazy Nissan monstrosities.

Hahahaha ooops!

A bit more adjustment needed. They just need to employ people with OCD!

It is the friction from the duster pushing the tailgate down ;-)

When he takes his hand off it will lift back into place.

Isn’t the Bentayga just a pimped Touareg? One of the most hideous vehicles currently sold, in my eyes.

And that’s the thing with car brands: all smoke and mirrors with just a few 10k difference in price.

Years ago, when someone showed me how easy bonnets & boots were to align I couldn't believe how PDI/dealers let cars out of their sight looking like that. Bugs me even now.

Ditto Mk1 MX-5 headlights, so easy to adjust yet many are all saggy. Makes the car look awful!

The left hand side of the photo is the tailgate, it is too high, or clusters are misaligned.

Emphasized by the tacky chrome surround. And the gap is visibly larger and uneven between the clusters.

Just did a quick google on this. Carwow put the Bentayga at between £137k and £233k. I'd want a bit more care putting into it if I were paying that kind of money for a car (I wish).

Like x-man said, I wouldn't expect that from a Superb, let alone a Bentley.

That would drive me insane!

If I was paying that much for a car, I’d expect things to line up perfectly.

You wouldn’t see anything like that coming out of Rolls Royce - someone would be sacked for such a thing.

There is only so much you can get into a car.

Fit and finish on most modern cars is excellent due to the automated processes,  CNC machines and Robots etc.

My Skoda Octavia of 2007 was as good as the Mercedes from the same year. The Columbus sat nav was light years ahead of the map and compass sat nav in the Mercedes. The Skoda had lumber support, nicer switches and a lovely bit of soft rubber behind the internal door handle, oh and double door seals to keep the sills clean. Skoda £18,000 Mercedes £56,000.

The Skoda lost about £12,000 in 10 years and the Mercedes around £40,000

I find it so funny when people say 'yeah but it's a Skoda'

The company I work for supply machinery to Bentley, when the Bentley purchasers come down to our factory to see the machinery and place orders they always turn up in a Skoda Superb which are used as their pool vehicles. All the guys admit the Skoda is a fantastic car and is hard to beat for value for money/size/equipment/comfort.

I remember a few years ago the Bentley sat nav was basically the same unit as the Superb mk2 Columbus, same graphics etc, but after they had several complaints from Bentley owners they had to change it, owners were not at all happy once word got out it had a Skoda sat nav!.

Bentley won’t let just any employee drive their cars. They have to have built up many, many hours of driving a Bentley in the factory before they are allowed out on public highway.

Understandable given the cost of even the poverty spec models :D

Nothing wrong with the build quality of my Bentley, 1000 % perfect,  utter class       And it's only got one wheel

It’s not misaligned sir, it just needs to settle in and will adjust itself once the super-expensive seal modifies itself to a snug fit over the next couple of weeks.  Like a fine vintage wine sir, it needs to mature a bit......... ;)

The alignment of the panel in that clip is terrible. But I had to do some work at Bentley in Crewe years ago and was given a tour of the production line of the Continental GT. There is no way that misalignment would get missed by the skilled workforce. Well I know this example was missed... ;)
