MK2 Octavia driver's door lock

Featured Replies

The door lock on my MK2 Octavia just turns 360 degrees in both directions and doesn't lock or unlock the door.

I've done a lot of searching and cannot come up with the definitive answer on how to get the lock barrel out.

I have an idea but want to check before going ahead.

Am I right in saying that the torx screw accessible in the hole marked "B" in the attached photo is  to release the lock barrel?

If so, can anyone who has done this give me some advice on how to proceed please?

I should add that I've seen many examples of removing the MK 1 lock barrel. It's done by releasing the torx headed screw in the one hole that is present on the door, marked "A" in the pic.

I also hear that you should unscrew the screw 3 turns, elsewhere 12 turns, elsewhere until you detect that its completely undone and then screw back in a couple of turns.

Also, don't take it out completely or something will fall into the door and with the inner card riveted on I don't want to get to that stage.

All of the above relating to the MK 1.  I'm really looking for someone who has already done it on a MK2 who can confirm that the screw inside the hole marked "B" is the correct screw (it really looks like the correct one close to the barrel itself) and how to go about removing it.

Thanks.

Thanks xman.  I've read that and it mentions to unscrew screw 3 by about 3 turns and seems to me that it refers to a second screw...

–  Release locking screw → Chapter (Pos. 12). The lock cylinder housing is detached.

but doesn't identify it.  The link to "Chapter" only produces a blank page. Any Idea?

Slightly pull out and hold the door handle -1-. Loosen screw -3- by about 3 turns.
Note
If the screw is unscrewed too far the catch may separate from the bracket and fall inside the door.
–  Release locking screw → Chapter (Pos. 12). The lock cylinder housing is detached.
–  Pull out lock cylinder housing with cap -2- from bracket at right angles to the door.

Ok, I eventually got the lock out.

xman, thank you very much for your help.

In the end the procedure was very simple. Not really helped by the text in the Skoda workshop manual...

Release locking screw → Chapter (Pos. 12). The lock cylinder housing is detached.

For anyone coming after me, this is procedure I used...

  1. Hold the handle out a small bit (not sure if that helped but that's what Skoda says).
  2. Unscrew the torx screw in the hole marked "B" in the image below three turns.
  3. Move to hole "C" in the image below.  I was unsure how much to unscrew this, always afraid that it, or something else would fall into the door. Initially I unscrewed it three turns and pulled on the key. Incidentally I turned the key 90 degrees to allow it to remain in the barrel while I pulled and wiggled it.  There was no movement at all on the barrel so I turned screw "C" one turn at a time while wiggling and I could see a gap appearing between the door and the lock surround. This went on a turn at a time with the gap increasing until I reached twelve turns and the lock came out cleanly.

    Now to repair it :(

It seems to me that the MK2 lock barrel is not repairable like the MK1.

I'm thinking of buy a used one to see if they can be taken apart. Don't want to mess with the original yet.

Has anyone got any experience with working on a MK2 lock barrel?

Couldn't find a second hand barrel to play with so ordered a new one today.  Full retail is €55.00. Got it for €47.00.  Will be here in two weeks, maybe longer...

This price was for the barrel keyed to the original key. To buy a barrel with key (not keyed to original) would have cost €150.00!!

Great advice. I had spent ages trying to get barrel out but as I only went 4 turns on screw B for fear of losing lock into door I was never going to get it out. After reading this I kept turning screw B whilst wife was pulling on key in lock which came out after about 6 to 7 turns. New barrel easily fitted - was quoted £125 labour charge by skoda garage to do this job. Workshop manual instructions were pretty useless but if anyone else needs to replace lock barrel follow instructions given above by Garfieldus and you will find job easy.

Hi All, Just did this on my Ocy Scout (2010) and ' garfieldus' is correct as like he says the ELSAWIN instructions are not complete ! 'Andrewv' has mixed up the 2 screws slightly, the top one should only come out 3 turns max or it will fall out into the door, then move to the lower screw as it undoes a clamp around the lock barrel, the barrel comes out complete with its plastic surround ! Cheers Stuart

Thanks for your help, this lower clamp screw was only visible when I shone a bright light on it. By slowly unscrewing the T20 screw and pulling on the lock barrel I managed to withdraw. It was then an easy job to adjust the door handle cable.

@Garfieldus where did you order the new barrel from for the original key?

Hello, My car is a Oktavia Mk2 vrs 200hp 2006. I dropped the bolt under cover B inside the door. Can you give me the necessary information about that screw?  I will buy.
