Connecting MP3 to Fabia VRS Symphony HU

Featured Replies

Hi,

Wondering if anyone has found a solution other than the Dension to enable connection of mp3 and dvd players to the Grundig HU via a 3.5mm jack plug.

I have tried a blaupunt aux in connector, this basically had 3 wires in the mini iso connector at one end, and the 3.5mm plug at the other. It was connected to the left and right hand audio in plus ground.

I think this doesnt' work because the HU doesn't have a selectable aux in ability.

There is another one one available from a german company on ebay. from the picture this has far more wires on it.

I've translated the text to english:

The interface simulates CD a change-over switch and de-energises thereby the audio of entrances of your radio. The adapter makes possible to operate an external audio equipment with Chinch connections and is usable only if no CD change-over switch is attached. One knows thereby the clay/tone from a PDA navigation, DVD Player, MP3 Player, portable CD Player to attach iPod or any source of clay/tone to the car radio. Perfectly also for a Car PC or a laptop. Simple connection. Plug & Play

compatibly with:

Info. * gamma 4 is also compatible with this adapter, needs however additionally an adapter on 10-pin ISO. Adapter is not compatible with: Beta CC, gamma CC, delta CC.

Does anyone know if this is likely to work?

Many thanks.

Andy

It'll probably work but you may be faced with a few problems;

1. It only has phono outputs so you'll need a phono to 3.5mm jack adapter lead.

2. In my experience the headphone output of the iPod isn't very loud so you'll have to crank the volume right up, probably on both iPod and head unit. Problem is when you switch to radio or CD mode the volume on the head unit is way too high, ouch!

I built my own adapter thats pretty much the same as this eBay unit, it's not ideal though. I'd splash out on the Dension unit. The Dension unit controls the iPod too, not sure if the eBay adaptor does this..

Volume controls are somewhat separated anyway with separate volume for phone, cd, radio and traffic announcement (the latter being a default volume when a TA comes in).

I'd be annoyed about loosing the cd changer capability though :(

Thanks guys,

I did get a german mate to speak with the ebay company, they have confirmed it will work and there is a no quibbles 30 day back money offer.

All in I agree a proper ipod kit is likely to work the best giving you charging, proper control and decent volume, dilemerage as usual is you can only connect the ipod and not the dvd players. So now I have to decide whether to keep collecting cables that don't work or plump for the real thing :(

Appreciate the help as always.

I would get the IceLink myself to get the cradle but AFAIK that's the only difference.

Yeh, that was what I was thinking.

Do you know of any decent online retailers that you'd be willing to recommend? I may have a trip down to halfords tomorrow to see how much they're charging at the mo.

They're still flogging that alpine head unit with the alpine ipod interface for
