Hello fellow Yeti owners....aboard at last!!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

After a long search (8 months) I have finally "traded up" ( :) ), from an Octavia to a Yeti. I was on my 3rd Octavia, the last one being a 1.4tsi petrol. I have gone off diesels (DPFs and now only doing low mileage), so I have been looking for a petrol capable of towing. (ie ideally a 1.4). I have finally found one, (L&K, 7,500 mile), done the deal and picked it up today. /

I have never owned a car with so many "un-blanked" buttons on the dashboard. (I was a bit disappointed when I actually found one "blank", even the dealer could not work out what would go there!).

A bit higher revving than the Occy, and strangely seems to be a little less torquey at lower revs (?). However on the journey back home (80 miles), managed to average 47 mpg. Again not as good as the Occy, but 4 wheel drive so not expecting the same. (I will be checking the "real/actual "mpg" next time I top up.......question now is what car to get next!!...but that can wait a while...)

Many thanks to LannyGraham who pointed me in the right direction and kindly offered loads of good advise.

Well done Stuart.
Now when are you bringing it over to LLani?

Nice one Stu, hope you enjoy the Yeti

The 1.4tsi in your Yeti (EA211) is totally different to the one fitted to your Octavia (EA111) so it will potentially feel different

Out of interest - how many revs is the engine doing at 60 or 70 mph?

I was keeping an eye on the Yeti myself but for our current needs the boot was too small but once our son fledges...........

I don't know how you managed to average 47mpg with 4 wheel drive and the 1.4 petrol engine! If I can get anywhere near 40 mpg I'm doing well and many times it is is nearer 30 mpg driving around town, maybe high 30's if I'm driving 50 to 60 mph. The mileage of the car that you have bought is pretty similar to mine too, so both reasonably well run in.

Ref revs, about 28 per 1000 in 6th, (about 2200 @ 60mph)...ie a bit lower than the older engine on  my Octavia which was about 30mph per 1000 (2000 rpm @ 60).

Ref MPG..I do drive like a nun and I was "going for gold". The return trip was mainly clear roads and I did not exceed 50 mph (average speed on maxidot was 40mph over the 80 mile trip...and this was off the maxidot). I tested my old Octavia and the maxidot was more or less spot on, but I will check this one when I next fill up....

I'm not a fast driver but I definitely don't drive like a nun, just as carefully as I reasonably can! The model may be obsolete now but the car is far from past it, I've had my Yeti for nearly a year now and am still enjoying driving it and with the recent wintry weather we've been having off and on over the last month or so in my part of the country, it has never missed a beat, the 4 wheel drive is reassuring to have and makes the car feel much more planted on the road. I'm not sure if I could go back to a 2 wheel drive car when this PCH deal finishes next year!

..OK so first "top up"....took 37 ltrs for 336 miles, so approx 41mpg. A bit of a problem with the fuel gauge as it registered "full" for about 150 miles. Likewise the "MFD" range stopped on 350 miles for ages. Since top up it is now showing a range of 550 miles.

(The MFD showing an average of 44mpg, so about 8% optimistic).

My old Octavia 1.4 averaged about 50mpg, so for a 4 WD not too bad I suppose?

Temperature hit 13 degrees locally yesterday!  6 degrees higher than Venice where my daughter currently is! Increase in economy over the regular 0 - 4 degrees significant. However, -2 degrees forecast overnight. Ah well, nice whilst it lasted.
